Just wanted to know your views as to whether larger diameter wheels would notably affect the performance of the rex? also would heavier ones have are notable affect?

The reason i am asking is because my previous owners club (BMW E36) used to make such a fuss about losing time on 0-60 times etc. Obviously there will be slight differences but is it a big enough issue to worry about getting 16s or 17s?

This is what Clive has said on the subjet:
if you fit 20\'s yes it will look good but you will absolutely screw your handling, anything bigger in diameter than 17\'s on these cars is detrimental to it\'s geometry.
Thats all I can do mate!!!

have to disagree there as i have 18" and my car drives fine...

Yeah but you put a big heavy v8 in yours so the handling is allready screwed :rollin :rollin

Just joshin btw ;)

Its all about weight and nothing to do with size as such....

Although believe it or not, the larger the wheel, the heavier the tyre (its true honest)

So if you want to go 18" or 19" and want to keep your performance, you need very very light wheels indeed and magnesium wheel nuts are a good plan too :chat

They definitely will, a lightweight 18 should be fine though?

I  agree with probedb,u\'ll be fine with a set of 18\'s.

I\'m looking at rims  at the moment too...

I\'m looking at 18\'s, does anyone know what the weight of the standard rims are so I can compare them to the ones I\'m looking at?

And if I do fit 18\'s (7.5 front, 8.5 rear) how much can you lower it? I don\'t want a massive drop, or the expense of coilovers. I was hoping to get away with some slightly lower springs -  just something to make it not look like it\'s on stilts lol. I know the loom runs over the top of one of the inner arches so the last thing I want is for that to be crushed. Has anyone got experience in doing this?

PS sorry for the Hi-jack, but thought it may be relivent to your question  :Thumbs-up

i\'m running 8.5 x 18 front and rear and my car is super low. had to roll the arear arches for the 255 tyres but otherwise its fine.

how low have you gone? an how did you do it? springs, coilovers etc? (any pics from the side?)  Also what profile are you on? 35\'s?

Cheers fella

havn\'t got any pics at the mo-will try and get some this weekend.  the tyres are 40 profile all round. 235/40 front and 255/40 rear. i don\'t know what springs they are but i have GAB adjustable dampers. i can\'t adjust the springs.  if i could i would def raise it a bit! on speed bumps i have a few mm clearance on the front splitter!
