OK guys, car has been off the road since mid December, it ran out of MOT and Ive stored it away for a while knowing I wouldnt need it for 3 weeks or so. Ive had it running once or twice over the period making sure its OK etc but now I came to use it this afternoon and the rear brake calipers are sizied, to the point that after a 10 minute drive (mainly though traffic so hardly moving, in fact just 3miles) one of the brake discs are so hot theyre smoking and it smells. The disc now looks shot to be fair and might need replacing. So first question is where can I source some rear brake discs and pads and how damaging on the wallet is it going to be?

Secondly how can I unsieze the caliper? Otherwise its just going to eat a new set of discs and we dont want that :(

Cheers guys :)

it probably wants an overhaul or replacing with a good 2nd hand one, mazda do a o/haul kit I believe.

Hi Dave,

Try removing the offending calliper, giving it a good spray then wind the piston in and out as though you are adjusting to fit new pads.

These callipers are £200 each so the above is def worth a try.

Hope this helps.
All the best Clive

Cheers Clive, I hate this time of year :( got to wait til the weekend now before I can get stuck in again. Always dark when I get back from work

I did my pads at the weekend, you\'ll need a tool to wind the piston back in, assuming it\'s the same as my rear caliper.

davegttph1

Tool, too? care to enlighten me? :D sorry for being dumb but I dont have a clue what tool I\'ll need.

How did you do it? with the tool I presume?

Dave that fella that lives near you did his brakes not so long ago, i could ask him to see if he is free this weekend, and i will come and suck air in through my teeth plumber style while you to fix it :yes

The tools about 20 quid from halfords with the right gizmo to wind the piston in and out. I got my discs and pads from this company. They do refurbished units too :

Rear calipers are 111 plus vat each for recons.

Rear discs arn\'t cheap :(

I\'ve used long nosed pliers before on mine instead of buying a tool.  Work absoluetly fine..  Give it a go

I have a set of calipers if you do end up needing new ones. Got the whole brake assembly in fact if you need anything.

Cheers for the offer of help there Andy, your welcome to come over and have a nosey and make the tea whilst my fingers drop off fiddling about if you want. I changed all the seals on my rear callipers recently and got the bits from here http://www.brakeparts.co.uk/   £20 for the seals or 75 quid for a calliper.
