Hi
I\'am totally new to the Rx-7 world( just come from the lancer evo planet)

Whats the difference in specs?

I have been offered a 1998 type r bathurst with 41,000 kms for £8,000 landed in the uk

Whats the difference in this model to other specs

Scared by the reports  of engine rebuilds

Would the above be ok with that kind of mileage

Any help would be great

Thanks

J4P RX

The milage seems low so it should be ok as long as its not been abused etc.

As for models, there is a sticky topic at the top of this page but heres a link to it:

That price does sound cheap though imho so id probably be a bit warey of it unless you know lots about it.

check out this model guide thread at the top of this section.
Price sounds V low to me for such a low milage late model i\'d check that was inclusive of all the taxation etc that gets suck on top of price of imported cars :o
Have a gander round these parts & you\'ll come across many x scooby & presumable x evo types (my name may give away my roots;))
In terms of rebuilds the general rule is they may need a refresh at 60k though many have made 6 figures :D depends like all things how well cared for & modified it is but dont be scared off by idea of this "rebuild" as compared to any other cars engined tweaking it is mucho cheap at ~£3k (more or less obviously dependant on what else you do/need to do to it) thats what an oil change costs on similarly powerful cars :rollin OK slight exageration but u get the idea........
My cunning plan if i were you would be to get out there & try one out & see if it\'s the kinda thing you seek :cool

FYI presume that the price is pre tax SVA etc etc as mine is en route & current cost is just short of 8k for costs to get it bort & to the UK shores (slightly older & more miles so yers still sounds too cheap but u never no yer luck...) but it\'ll cost me nearer £13k by the time it\'s ready for me to collect.

Check it\'s not auction grade \'R\' at that price.  (Crash repaired).

No question IMO (as an avid auction tracker and frequenter of Rotary workshop that sees A LOT of imports), an £8K \'98 with 41k kms is either a) not actually got 41K kms on it, b) a (not very good) crash repair, or c) a combination of a) and b) and probably generally a litte bit of a rough example...

FACT: a mint low mile \'92 car can still go for a million yen in Japan. The cheap FD does exist - but from experience they are total dogs 95% of the time and are gonna cost you a packet to put right...

If you\'re budget\'s £8K, go to a reputable importer e.g. Bri @ Rotary Imports (banner at top) or Newera (neweraimports.com) and get a nice clean early car; all those bust expensive bits of interior trim and annoying rattles/squeak, crappy panel gaps, low compressions etc etc will totally destory what should be a great experience - owning a beautiful, giant of car :)

Will let you know the outcome

Cheers

Ok, hopefully you\'re looking at a good deal; if you look you\'ll see that at auction and at dealers - which covers the majority of vehicle exchanges in the JDM - a GOOD \'98 will go for GOOD money.

Good luck ,let us know how u get on...
