ok, been told when you decat the rexys (i got an fd) you need to sort the fueling somehow. is this  complete remapping or something a unit like the Apexi Super SAFC II can do?  as far as i know, this unit is a piggback unit yeh?

whats all this about Apexi FC commander, whats that and hows it work in relation to the fd?

cheers

I think the rule of thumb is (and correct me if I\'m wrong) that you can do a mid de-cat and an indunction kit without changing the fuelling (i.e. statically mapped stock ECU). Once beyond those mods you risk detonation damage to rotor tips.

The next mod is to replace with a mappable ECU replacement and most go for the Apexi power FC (about £500-600??). This is initially self learning (or has safe default settings) but must be mapped by a specialist ASAP and after any further mod.

Plenty to search on.....

but wot about the super safc II unit? can this do wot the fc commander do (apart from the self learning)???  im guessing not as the name suggests "commander" and the safc is a piggyback device.

wot would be the benefits of ME on a FD with induction kit and catback with the apexi safc II (its just ive been offered one from a mate)

I think that the de-cat would need an ECU upgrade as well if combined with intake and free-flowing back-box.

You can do back-box and induction and most likely be safe (assuming injectors, fuelpump, etc are all performing in top condition...).  Add de-cat to the equation and you\'re running a significant risk of running lean in certain conditions (cold days, high-gear acceleration - densest air and biggest load).

If I were conmsidering upgrades I\'d get the ECu first - you\'d see benefits with a mapped Apexi (for example) that you wouldn\'t see from the others without the ECU as well.

There are to pieces to the Apexi ECU upgrade - the ECU itself (Power FC) and the controller/display unit (the Commander).

Not sure about the SAFCII unit, you might be able to avoid the ECU upgrade by sticking on a beefier fuel pump but would need time on a dyno to make sure you\'re still running safe.  You have no control over settings though.

One thing to note - if you\'ve got an older FD don;t assume that things like the fuel pump are actually supplying the fuel at the rate it did when new.  Even with the injector duty set to 100% my stock pump was incapable of supplying my very mild mods (de-cat, cat back and apexi intakes on a mildly ported engine).  Be aware that things on older cars might not support any mods you add with any reliability!!!

as has been said before, go for the tried and tested method, Power FC! After all it is a lot cheaper than a full engine rebuild when you throw a tip! You can get a PFC for about £450 if you source it yourself from Japan + they are plug and play so no need to pay someone to fit it. Then a mapping session with a good tuner should be about £200 ish so for £650-£700 you\'ll have a car which is set up properly
