Hi all,

new-b  here.

I was wondering (if this post works this time) if any of you have been in both an mitsi evo 6 and an rx7, i\'m looking to get an rx7 after x-mas (even if i have to sell my kidney!) and was wondering how the acceleration compares as i\'ve been in a evo 6 and it gives me something to go on?? i know the 0-60 times are quite simular (for the type r) but this doesnt really give the full picture.

thanks in advance

I\'ve never been in a evo but I am led to believe would beat the rx7 up to approx 100-110 and then the rx7 would take over.
The rx7 your look at 60 in apprx 5.2 sec the evo I think is 4.4 sec?
rx7 will do a 1/4 mile in approx 13.8 I\'m not sure on the evo but I think it was quicker.

thanks brian, any idea why the evo is a fair chunk quicker to 60?

both being approx 280bhp and the rx being so light , i thought it would romp it, always thought 4x4\'s were mainly only more of a help in the wet for the grip?

get so many different quotes for an r type to 60, i\'ve heard 4.8, 5.0, 5.4. its hard to know what to believe really.

what sort of horse power do you reckon you\'d need to get into the mid 4secs 0-60? its just the ride in the evo nearly pushed my eyes through the back of my head and i want that same \'shove\' into the back of the seat feeling for my rex.

thanks again

The 0-60 is all down to traction and when you have enough to wheelspin the 4wd will always help.

I had a Pulsar and it would do sub 5\'s all day, just redline and step of the clutch.  No skill, anyone can do it.

so a decent set of tyres and a good suspension set up would make a fair bit of difference then, rather than bhp?

i\'m sure some of you guys have timed youreselves for 0-60, what sort of actual times were you getting?

sounds like a rear wheel drive with 300bhp+ would struggle to get the power down

from what your saying it sounds like i should get some rather nice acceleration at mid to high speeds once the cars rolling???

The 99 onwards type r is 280 bhp which does 0-60 in 4.9 secs but the 92-95 255 bhp &96-98 265 bhp type r do it in 5.2 secs
As Lee stated you can fly off the line in a 4x4 at 6,000rpm you try that in a rex you\'ll be spinning on the spot:D
Once you go for a test drive in a fd you\'ll get the same throw back in your seat sensation but if going by the book then the evo is quicker.

I\'d have to agree depending on wot evo yer yer looking at they can be just a light as a RX7 & more often than not quicker times but they\'re very different beasties so it depends wot yer after.......
bohth will fullfill the self inflicted whiplash you seek & be head turners but for different reasons  lol really depends wot yer after really.......

although as already mentionned go for a play yourself as even with my limited experiance of driving the RX7 they have somewhat different characteristics even if they do both wedge head backwards :D & then [big bro mode on]YOU DECIDE[/big bro off] lol

I\'ve owned both. Had an Evo 6 when they first arrived. Very different beasts - traction of an Evo is quite astonishing, but the turbo comes in a bit higher than the RX7 - you can sometimes get bogged down at low revs in the Evo if you\'re not careful, whereas my RX seems to pull from pretty much any revs. Don\'t think anyone would dispute what would be faster in the wet tho. In the dry it would be fairly close on regular roads I think. They feel fairly similar from a shove-in-the-back point of view. And of course in the RX7 you sit a lot lower and you feel more connected to the car. Both great cars tho. Just be very careful in the wet in the RX - the only time I ever got the back out on the Evo was on a wet handling course, whereas I can pretty much do it at will (or even not at will) on vaguely moist roads in the RX :D.

cheers lads,

i think i\'m more suited to a rear wheel drive really, bit more fun! i\'m sure my mum could fly of the line in an evo!:)

you actually picked up on a point i didnt question, i wasnt aware the earlier type r\'s were considerably less powerful, the stats i read just said \'type r - 280bhp\' so thats handy to know.  will prob have to get an earlier (less powerfull) typr r for financial reasons. i would imagine getting it to 280 wouldnt be too hard with the trusty chip, downpipe, straight through, boost controller option would it?

not really looking to get an evo as there about double what i can afford so 0.2 seconds here or there wont bother me too much!

the \'self induced whiplash\' is exactly what i\'m after really, just love that feeling of going faster than you thnk was possible! :D
