I am going to finally make the plunge into rotary power within the next 2 months but only really want a single turbo conversion with around 350RWHP or maybe a little more if the right car came along. While i was scanning ebay tonight i came across this and wondered what people think:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1992-MAZDA-RX-7-RX7-WHITE-HIGHLY-MODIFIED_W0QQitemZ4600068139QQcategoryZ18211QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

The guy has tried a few times to sell his car on ebay as i saw it last month a couple of times advertised. The point about the bodywork doesnt bother me as i can get this sorted with ease but there were a few performance related questions ive asked him but have yet to get a reply (may be due to being the new year and everything). Anyway, there was no way id choose one before asking this forums highly regarded opinion. Ive been scanning the forum for months now and it seems like it has a wealth of infomation and advice.

Anyway, the obvious thing i could see is that the PFC has not been mapped. Is this a cause for concern. It seems to me that to modify an RX7 this much with an engine that is within strict tollerences when comming out the factory seems rather stupid without getting it mapped ASAP. Would you say this engine is just waiting to blow up with him driving around on the apexi base map, even at a conservative 0.8bar. The other thing i could see was the need for an uprated clutch and injectors but apart from this is there much more that would need to be done to make the engine "safe"?

The last thing i want is to buy a car like an RX7 and then for it to need a rebuild a month down the line. Your help in this would be greatly appreciated

That is a very good price for a single turbo!!
Yes you are quite correct the FIRST thing you want to do is upgrade the fuelling system, bigger secondary Injectors,Fuel Rail,Pump, reg and a remap of the ECU
Probably need to spend an Extra Grand for this but well worth it then you can run that turbo at 1 Bar of boost at least, that will easy get you 380 at the wheels if not more

rich seems like a pretty sorted motr...your only concern will be if it need s a rebuild. He says that the ecu has not been mapped for the new mods.......you need to find out what these mods are.......either way leads to the same rebuild....so this is most important......chances are it came from japan with the td06 as its not a popular tubby choice over here. if its got a single chances are the injectors ahve been done....can\'t say much for the clutch though...youll have to drive it to see.

blitzboy....i doubt he\'ll see that sort of power at 1 bar on that turbo...definately won\'t if it aint ported.

good luck!

Howdy rich, i have seen that car on ebay before, and i think the fella selling it is a member on here, user name Martin. I sent him an email last month asking him a few questions about his turbo conversion as i was buying a similar kit, he was very helpful and didnt mind me asking :Talking1 The car looks very nice and that is a good sized single turbo, and for the money you cant go wrong, but with all cars you need to look over them properly and get them checked out before parting with any cash. But you never know you could buy yourself the bargain of the year. All the best with whatever you decide matey :)

ok after some thought about the milage and the fact that a rebuild could be on the horizon anyway i have noticed this:

http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19491

Does this car have all the neccessary items to make it a safe reliable rex. I cant seem to think of anything else it needs but as i said before im no expert. Its a little standard for me as i hoped to buy one with a kit etc, but if the engine is top condition then i would be willing to look into this more.

your opinions would be greatly appreciated :yes

if i was looking and had the money i\'d say YES PLEASE

That\'s a nice looking RX-7 with a good spec for the money, fueling and mapping need to be sorted plus the engine will need rebuilding in the near future.Always best to view an RX-7 like this and take someone who knows these cars well if possible or it might cost you dearly.

We imported a very similar spec car as a project fitted with a TD06 25G kit, mega noisey but performance felt as flat as a fart, turbo turned out to be shot but the TD06 is fairly cheap to rebuild.

You pays your money and take your chances......

if you have the ££££££££££££££ have a look at Mulv\'s car - thats very impressive - i think its more BHP than you want as his runs about 517 at the wheels :D
