Just been speaking to a few peeps who recon my rex idles to high  :xconfused

She has always idled at 1500rpm once she is warmed up and never drops below that. There are a few engine mod\'s done that I can see:

HKS Air Filters
Cat back zaust
Knigtsport Fuel Cut Defence Chip

What should she be idling at or is this normal?

Cheers

Not at that lol :)

Around 750-800 rpm usually you only see those kind of idle speeds at warm.

Sounds like the idel control valve is out, (not sure at the proper technical term) there is a idle screw you can adjust. Do a search on here there are a few threads one i think i started about a similar question.

Cheers

Make sure you have no air leaks..if all ok adjust the bleed screw thats under the intake elbow..screw all the way in then come out 1/2 turn at time..thats what i did and it worked fine :)

O yeah nearly forgot..whats a fuel cut defence chip?

will2j

apparently it tricks the ecu into pumping more fuel in to the engine to avoid detonation, the ecu has had a Jap special boost turn up. The fuel cut allows the extra boost by telling the ecu to give it more fuel under hard acceleration, yhus saving the engine!

Brett

FCD modulates the signal from the MAP sensor, this tricks the ECU into thinking the car is not over boosting, thusly it doesnt cut the fuel.

thanx Brett, thats exactly what I was trying to say m8!

But it does not increase the fuel into the car, it will still load in the standard rate of fuel.

Yeah they are dangerous!  The signal from the boost sensor to the ecu is resisted so the ecu thinks the car is boosting less than it actually is.  Now, the ecu is designed to cut fuel at a certain boost level, I don\'t know but say 0.9 bar.  So if it think it is running 0.4, it will continue fueling accordingly, instead of cutting fuel becuase it doesn\'t want to go over 0.9.  This is very dnagerous with this car, because now it is only providing fuel for 0.4 instead of 0.9, so will run lean.

BAD !!!!!

sounds like the best thing to do then mate is to rip that chip out
