Seems lots of people have differing noisy clutch problems but they don\'t fully describe mine. Past couple of days im finding that after changing gear when i bring the clutch back up if i do it fast it makes a horrible (quick) scraping noise, bit like when changing gear and a synchro\'s gone, but i can change fine, does it in at least 3rd, 4th and 5th, is this the release bearing going? Clutch is an os giken twin plate, been in there a while now, well, three years, which seems to be a lot as far as this car\'s concerned :)

No other symptoms, and if i do it slow enough no noise, although i do mean \'slow\'.

Cheers for any help.

what clutch do you have a lot of exedy clutches and other twin and single uprated ones do make a screeching noise

Hi cheers for the reply, as above its an OS Giken Twin Plate, but it\'s a different noise to the normal twin plate rattle, i\'ve had the car long enough to put up with that. The noise is just like when a synchro\'s gone or you try changing gear without the clutch, but i can shift in and out fine, it\'s a seconds worth of scraping as the clutch closes in (let your foot off the clutch reasonably fast) and it appears to be getting worse :)

Edit: thinking it\'s more likely the plates

Turned out this (seemingly) was because the alternator had shifted slightly since the \'lever\' bolt wasn\'t tight enough, seemed the extra tension when dropping the clutch too quick was making the belt slip (it\'s the best explanation i can muster), although it sounded just like a missed gear. Only found this out when i took it for a drive yesterday and was making a right racket -bad enough for people to stop and stare, eventually it made no noise whatsoever, but the check oil, check coolant and check battery lights were lit up and i was only putting out 11v, parked up and found the alternator had slipped enough for the belt to come off completely. Fixed that and recharged the battery. No noise since.

Unrelated went to red line it in third today and *pop*, engine went dead, electrics went dead, burning smell and steering heavy, pulled over fearing the worst had happened only to find the power steering belt had disintegrated pulling the battery cable out of the fusebox with it and shedding rubber all over the engine bay. Here\'s what\'s left ..

Bigger pic not much belt left

.. seemed the tensioner pulley next to the PS pump had slipped forward, something i can\'t explain since i used an impact wrench on it when i fixed the pump last week. Not to worry, lucky i only do work on my car and nobody elses :)
