I am thinking about getting a blow off valve for my FD.  It looks to me like I have two recirculating ones under the hood, so do I need two replacement atmospheric ones ?

Cheers, Simon..

Alright Simon, if you are referring to the standard denso valve things, only one (the one nearest the airbox, at the front) is a dump valve, dont know what the other fella does (charge relief valve? maybe) but you leave it in when replacing with an aftermarket item. If you like for now you could simply disconect the standard dump valve tube from the airbox, blank up the hole in the airbox that is left. This will give you the noise, and it is free :Thumbs-up  which is alsways a brucy bonus. Hope this helps, regards Andy.

Sorry to hi jack but we have just fitted a hks bov to my fd and its not very loud at all can only hear it with the window open. My boyfriend didnt remove a standard valve tho. Have you got any pictures of the standard valve and should it be removed.

Oh yes, the standard valve must be binned!! Easy to find:
Follow yoour boost pipe back towards the turbos down towards the "Y" pipe. where the Y pipe splits to each turbo there is a rubber hose about 20mm diamiter. this pipt goes to your blow off valve then from the BOV to your air box. basicaly remove the Brown plasic resircalating valve and pipe to the air box, fit your BOV to the open end of the pipe and block off the hole left in youe air box!!

Job done, louder funky BOV sound!!

Hope this helps

I did this to mine the first week I had it! the only thing with this is:

it gives a very long (laisy) waisting of boost instead of a sharp short blast, also I found that on power it was fine but when you get to the stage of max speed for the amount of throttle being used you get an anoying shhhhhhh sound  :Grrr  as if the valve isn\'t shut fully!!

Another thing that happened to me was..... when i fitted my apexi BOV it was very very quite and i was a bit disappointed :flamed until i binned the airbox for some hks racing filters and it was very loud indeed!! Dont know why, but i liked it alot :InLove

There is a "noise" adjuster underneath the SSQ i.e. a bolt and a lock nut and from memory you unwind it to make more noise.

I have come across a couple of cars that have had quiet SSQ\'s so it is possible that they are quiet because our Rotary\'s run quite low boost.
All the best Clive

My Brother had one on his modified Pulsar GTiR, running 1 bar you could clearly hear it, but not too loud, and the more boost you put through it the louder it was. at 1.7 bar it sounded awsome but drasticaly reduced the engins life expectancy!!! At 2 bar boost the engine lasted a 0-60 run, smashed 1 and cracked 2 pistons, but did do it in 3.9 sec!!!

im running .8 bar but in this weather its more like .9. Turbos were rebuilt 6kmiles ago.

Ill have a look at the noise adjuster and i plan to get rid of the standard air box.
