So dropped the car off at 12 yesterday for its MOT, everything looked OK, told them Id pick it up at 4:45 (when I finish work) went down there and they\'ve not MOT\'d it and they\'d not told me :( apparently when the engine is running in the workshop the fumes from the car are too strong and they couldnt breathe so stopped the test 2 minutes in.... GRRRR, anyone else had this problem? anything I can do to reduce the smoke/fumes from the exhaust? I have a PFC so can adjust settings if need be, dont want to change too much and bugger the mapping up??!!!???

Cheers guys, doing my head in now.

Not sure where you are, how far are you from Reading? Take it to Thames Valley MOT.

i think grantham is in yorkshire..u need to get ur settings checked as firstly if the car had stood all day then 2 mins the car wld have been on idle enrichment so prob did kick out a pong car shld have been warmed fully and also they are rich but shldnt have been that bad..think the mot stn was prob waffling a bit as they had prob run out of time to do it what year is it

davegttph1

I reckon they ran out of time too but I\'ll give them the benefit of the doubt on that note and see if I can save myself being messed about by another garage....

Grantham is in Lincolnshire, still a bit far to trek to get to Reading, especially this time of year and I cant get time off work to be travelling that far just for a certificate :( the car got me to work at 9am, I dropped it off at the garage about half a mile away from my work at 12noon, they obviously started it 4:42 minutes later so yes it was probably still on the idling stage...

There must be 20 garages in my town and apart from the dealers (no mazda garage) Ive tried all off them and had a bad experience in someway whether it be trying to be ripped off or bad customer service. I really shouldnt own a car

Well this is EXACTLY the reason I take all my cars to Thames Valley MOT, its 60+ miles from me ( one way!), but Dave is friendly, is an RX owner, and he will adjust your car to get it through the test.  Yes, plus the garages near me are run by tw4ts who dont have a clue what a Customer is, and they rip me off !!!

adib

take it out and boot it a few miles before you take it in

There\'s aplace near me (not much use to you then!) that is a \'while you wait\' station.  Never had to wait more than 20 mins before the start and the tester is completely happy for me to fiddle with the PFC until it passes the emisions test.  Been there for the last 2 MoTs and they remember the car and give it some respect.  I guess it\'s different from the other chav mobiles.  Its just a case of trying places until you find a decent one...

Hi Dave,

Coop Garage in Melton did mine no worries last year. Mine\'s standard but shouldn\'t make a difference.

cheers

Cheers Gareth, you got a number for them?

Iain, how\'d you adjust the PFC to reduce emmissions then? dont want to fiddle too much but know how to get into all the settings thing but darent change anything for messing the mapping up etc...

They\'re pretty good and can do it whilst you wait usually. Ring up and book though. Also I heard that turning the air-con on reduces emissions.

cheers

Gareth

I turn the air con on just to keep the temps down when they leave it idling :)

Do they have a pit?

Cheers bud

GeckoGareth

erm... think they use massive liffters, don\'t look to have much of a ramp on them if you\'re worried about your front lip.

best bet is give them a ring mate.

cheers

I\'m off to WGT on tuesday for my MOT, as you know Pip will do whats requred for the rx to pass the MOT.

WGTis in Northwich so a bit of a trek but worth it for the service Pip offers  :Talking1

Dave,

I can\'t remember off the top of my head which setting it was.  It\'s not obvious though and it resets back to 100% when you restart the engine so needs doing while it\'s running.  Deffo requires a friendly MoTer.

Gurj, first place that popped into my head was WGT but I have no holidays left at work so getting time off is a pain :( especially this time of year :(

Iaint, thanks anyhow bud, will have a think about it tonight, might have to see what I can do, maybe a day off unpaid (as if its not expensive enough this time off year already ;) ) to get up to WGT. need the car for christmas to be fair.
