Is it worth uprating a Type R\'s Twin oil coolers? I\'m running around 350ish bhp maybe not that much on a single turbo but are these stock items good enough or will uprated ones make be better.

Depends, are you seeing excessive oil temps?

Running too cold will cause damage as will running too hot but you need to be a bit scientific about this.

also depends on what you use the car for... mainly road work - unlikely to be running too hot, track work maybe an issue and oil changes are more important in this case.

I\'m thinking of upgrading my system but I\'ve only got 1 cooler at the mo so it\'ll likely need it.

Get a decent oil temp sensor/gauge and all will be revealed!

i havn\'t really looked at the temps to be honest, just wondered if it was a needed or sensable mod for them, its only really a road car so ..... i\'ll get some guages to look at the temps first.

Good plan.  I\'m sure the Mr OpieOil man will be able the let us know the inherant risks of running too hot or cool and how this effect differnt oils too.

Let us know what you find out as it\'s good to have the info for people to look at for comparison.

Too hot causes the oil to thin, above 110degC is not good for an sae 40 mineral or semi synthetic. A synthetic can take around 120degC.

Too cool can mean the oil being too viscous and cause drag (loss of bhp at the wheels) or in worst case slugs of air fed to the bearings through aeration.

A good temp is between 75 and 100degC
