A couple of weeks back i had some car problems. I managed to get the car started and drove it for a good day. No issues at all. Starting when hot and cold with no problems.

After a days worth of driving i put it in the garage. When going to start it the day after, it was struggling to get up the revs (i assume this was due to it not being driven for a long time)so i stupidly pressed my foot on the accelerator. So it was flooded. a month down the line im still trying to get it started. I got it very close but the battery started wearing down and is now on its way out.

We tried a few times yesterday to jump the car but it just couldnt keep going. You could here the compression and it was close but I think it might be an issue with the spark plugs. Which leads me to the question. Can anyone advise on some good plugs? I will check the ones in there but if they are worn then ill buy some new ones.

Dave do a search on here for "flooding", I am pretty sure its flooded, and yes, putting in new plugs would fix it if that was the problem.

Not sure what plugs, though, I think SHY Auto are advertising service kits, and the plugs are probably listed on their site.

Brett

I had a similar problem, it came down to poor plugs cuasing flooding.  A new set of plugs will make a big difference.

thanks for your help, im going to get a new battery, clean the plugs and give it another go. If im still having problems then ill invest in some spark plugs. Just wondering if anyone has some lying around? Or knows where i can get them on a next day? I have spoke to Jimmy\'s and he has said that he can get hold of a set for around £45. Sounds like a good price. Can i find them cheaper???

Brett

Seems about the going rate for TII plugs, I take it thats the platinum ones? (git a \'P\' at the end of the number)

ill have to ask him, not sure if they are plt but i would have thought so.

im hoping that this is going to be the problem, it was running like a dream before i flooded it.

got myself a new battery and its turning over fine now, just no spark at the mo. Will need to remove the egi fuse which brings the next question. Where abouts is it. Im pretty sure its at the front of the bay with some other switches but mines not labeleld???? thanks dave

Dave, if the plugs don\'t work get someone to check your coils. They are well known for overheating and causing poor spark to the plugs.

The EGI fuse is on the passenger side inner wing (next to the strut tower) its a long thin fues box (3" long 1/2" wide) the fuses are an odd shape (big square things).

I found the best way of starting an Rx7 thats flooded is Take the plugs out (all of them) then remove the EGI fuse and turn it over until there is no white smoke coming out of the plug holes (fuel and air so don\'t smoke while your doing it) then put the battery on Charge whist you do the next bit. Now get a gas hob (cooker) and a pair of pliers and warm a plug up one until it is bone dry and hot, you will need to warm them for a minute or so untill it stops changing the colour of the flame (you\'ll see what i mean when you do it). Now this is the hard bit, manover the hot plug into the plug socket and whilst still hot put back into the plug hole (it will sizzle a bit if you have done it right don\'t worrie its drying the wet fuel in the plug hole)  repeat this with the other plugs and try it. You can use a blow torch to warm the plugs but i find a Gas hob works best (less violent).

Somthing else you may want to have a look whilst at the "Removing Egi and turning over" stage, with the egi out and with all the plugs still in, take the top rear one out and turn the engine over (listen for three even Phsss noises) once done refit the Plug and remove the top ft plug and turn over and listen for the same three even Phsss noises. Job done. Then do the Plug warming thing.

Hope it helps. I found once a Seven gets proper flooded when you fit new plugs the first thing it does is the Apex seal pushes liquid fuel over the Plug effectivly flooding it again (hence flooding it again). If all this doesn\'t work then the only other way of getting it going is Toeing it round the block, put it in second get a bit of speed up and slowly let the clutch out (with the Ign on) but dont bump it like a piston engine you have to let the engine turn over quite a number of times. It will pop and bang a bit but if there is a spark and fuel it will go.

You will have to excuse the spelling i\'ve just got up and have no contacts in (can\'t see bugger all)

Quote from: vz-r_davegot myself a new battery and its turning over fine now, just no spark at the mo.

Do you mean its not firing or there is no spark at the plugs?

vz-r_dave

its really wierd, it fired the other day after it had been sitting for a week. But due to the battery being so low it only turned over a few times. So im thinking that the sparks may have got covered when it was turning over? when trying again last night it didnt fire due to the plugs probably being wet. (flooded)??????

Grizzly

yep flooded

do the plug warming thing. It should start ok.

Typical RX7 Flood.

Out of intrest does anyone out there know if the S5 T2 has the fuel cut when you push the throttle to the floor?

vz-r_dave

thanks for the info mate and thanks to everyone else for you help, im going to work on it on friday so i will let you know how it goes.

Brett

Oh btw, there will be huge cloud of white smoke when you do get it going, sometimes pumping on the accelerator pedal can help. (Hold it right down when you start cranking then pump it a couple of times. You will know if its helping or not cos the engine will fire a few times.)

yeah when trying to jump ive noticed the amount of fumes coming out of the exhaust. When my bro\'s flooded there was a lot of smoke. Thanks for the advice
