I know what it\'s like. I wish you the best of luck, getting it sorted  :reallymad

just been offered 3490 by insurers, is this a reasonable offer for a J reg fd3s. the engine was rebuilt by pip about 12 months ago, and still starts.
Also, does anybody know how much I should offer to buy it back ?

grinder

thats not a lot of money !

and can you buy the EXACT same car for that money - errrr i dont think so - always decline their first offer .. see if pip can write a letter of value of the car ( due to rebuild ) and say thats what it will cost to replace

did you not have an agreed value with the insurace ?

i managed to but one of my cars back for £75 - scrap value basically

Whoever came to assess your car would have issued a salvageable value. If you know that then offer them 2/3 of that value.

However, first tell them that the offer of £3400 is half way to getting a car to your spec.

Good luck

No way is that enough. Insurance companies are total tossers. They haggle with you about what your car is worth (not that you can haggle about your premium with them!!!). As grinder said, can that amount of cash buy you back the same car, er no! The rebuild would have cost you about a grand less than that, and you can prove that from the recipt you\'ll have from WGT.
If I were you I would do a search and get prices on similar FD\'s that have had engine rebuilds and get a valuation from Pip if thats possible. Personally Id be looking to get about £7,000 from them, or whatever you paid for the car plus the cost of the rebuild.

we deal with Insurance guys all the time, they tend to always go in low becouse people just want the ordeal over.

Insurance companys nowadays try to screw every one its all about showing a profit at the end of the day.

I hate to tell you this but 70% of insurance companys wont let you buy your car back becouse they are under strict guide lines of what is alowed to be repaired once its been a total loss, so they usaly tell you its not possable becouse they are contracted to a salvage Company for any Total Loss.

We are quite a large Bodyshop and you want to see them arguing with our engineers about how long a job takes and the diffrences in Estimates. Things like we like to fit new panels to make a nice repaire and they say no fill it so you end up with a tub of Filler in a panel.

I say get as much back up as possable, letter from Pip and say a cutting from the autotrader or some thing simalar (make sure its a good week with no cheap one in) you just don\'t see cars with fresh engines under 6k.

They offered me £4k to start with I laughed in their face, got £8k back in the end. Make sure they realise you know your stuff, I had a valuation letter from the club as well saying worth £xk.

Good luck getting sorted but like others said, don\'t fancy your chances of buying it back. Mine had a rebuilt engine and a few nice bits and pieces. THe only bit I got back was the CD player (forgot to get the loom :( ) and the rear speakers.

cheers
