A quick question for you mate, hope you dont mind... back in the day when you had your Egi, what manifold did you replace the evil thermal reactor with?

once this thermal reactor is gone can i ditch the whole air pump system? (got my straight thru system - 1 silencer, 1 back box - built now)

Info is much appreciated, as i know UK cars are different to the US ones and theres not many people tinkering with Egis over here :)

Cheers

for all you lot wondering when im joining it will be a week today on pay day.. I promise to hand over me 25 squids :D

Brett

I used a Hurley Exhaust, which is basically the same as a racing beat system, if you can get a racing beat or similar from one of the Supporting Vendors, failing that Rotechniks can get them.  The manifold was a 2-1 that joined under the car then into an expansion box, then Y piece then 2 back boxes.  Make sure the manifold you get is made out of decently thick steel, the Hurley one was too think and started to break up after about 5000miles!
If you want to ditch the air pump you will need to make up a plate to cover the air control system, however be warned it will not pass the emissions like this.

Cheers for the info Brett, just what i needed to hear :)

Hopefully removing this thermal reactor/emissions/cats will make a bit of a difference performance wise!

Brett

Oh yes!!!

This should giveyou an idea of what I mean :D

Bretts old EGI

It had the straight through system, K&N cone, circle earth system (custom) , Custom Air bypass system, uprated oil injection, slotted discs, green stuff pads, AFM modified to increase the fueling at certain ratios etc etc....

:god   Simple but effective :D

Whoa, sounds sweet, and looks like it goes pretty well too  :yes

Gonna be fabricating my own manifold up next weekend (using a few pictures which i have acquired of racing beat manifold (which i have scaled and drawn into CAD)) so hopefully will be something similar to your old spec in a very short time, already got eathing kit fitted and considering some porting! will be interesting to get on the rollers i reckon!

Anyway, all the advice is appreciated mate!  :yes May even buy you a beer if your at an event this year! :chat

Brett

No worries HTH, one thing I forgot to mention above was that we removed the baffels from the exhaust ports too!
Really hope it goes well for you :D

Sweet, ill give that a go too  :)

Been busy this afternoon ripping out all the Airpump system :D

Gotta build a blanking plate for that thing above the thermal reactor i took off... forgot what its called (still new to all this.. is it ACV valve or something?) will post a pic in a bit of whats left!

I took off the split air pipe that connects to back of the engine too, am i ok to blank the hole off for this too Brett?

Time for a rest after this afternoons work  :chat

Brett

Right, I think (memory is such a vague thing at the incredible age of 24) that the split air pipe goes into the back of the EGR unit, as you are removing this and blanking the ports off anyway it should\'nt pose you a problem. (Fingers crossed, its been awhile!!!)

Got any pics of your work so far?  I know its hard to do pics and get things done at the same time! :yes

Here we go:

Start to litter my drive with odds and sods of mazdas air pump system...

The thermal reactor that will be dying next weekend.. hahaha evil thing.

Gotta build a blanking plate for this bad boy, wont be that hard :)

Dont usually like getting my hands dirty but im quite enjoying messing with my FC :D I bloody love it!

Shopping list for this week is:

1. MRC membership ;)
2. various plate for blanking plates/manifold flange
3. pipe and odds and sods for the manifold fabrication
4. dual pulley
