Got the RX-7 at last.  Seems like I got lucky and the gamble of buying from an auction in Japan using the internet has paid off!:)

A few questions:

There is massive induction noise on full throttle that I don\'t remember from the RX-7s I test drove a few months ago.  Is this normal if you have free standing air filters, rather than an airbox?  I can hardly hear the engine over the air being sucked in.

Was thinking about buying some new air filters rather than cleaning the ones on there.  Why the hell is a piece of sponge and plastic mesh so expensive?  Generic motorsport ones are loads cheaper than Jap performance ones.

On full throttle I get a bit of Grey smoke.  I guess this means I\'m running rich.  I know RX-7s are meant to run a bit rich, but to the point of a lilttle smoke?  It pulls smoothly and cleanly.

There\'s no smoke at all when I start it.  Does this mean it\'s not injecting oil into the housings?

I\'m thinking of writing up the whole process of importing a car yourself using the internet to buy from auction.  Would this be of interest to people?

Will post some photos once it stops raining!  I\'ll also get some photos when I take it round goodwood next week:)

It\'s all done now - just waiting for the registration, hopefully on Friday.

It\'s more than ten years old, so didn\'t need an SVA.  I have SVA\'d an MR2 in the past though.

From all the stories I\'ve heard, it seems quicker and easier to import and do all the work yourself.  It really is very easy with a little research!  I\'d only expect it to be difficult if you try to SVA something heavily modified.  (Is that right?)  I think things get harder if the car was built in 97 or later.  Please comment if you know.

The only problems I had were:
1.  Insurance company got my name, chassis number and model wrong
2.  MOT  place got the chassis number wrong
3.  DVLA decided they didn\'t need my MOT and gave it back to me when I left their offices.

I checked all these things as I went along and caught all the problems straight away to avoid delays.

As I said before, I\'ll put together a step-by-step article to help others who are wrongly overwhelmed by the whole thing.

Thanks for the offer of help.

Hey dude,

Glad you finally got her! Don\'t worry about that induction noise, if you have an aftermarket kit that\'s quite natural. I have one step further and got a fibreglass bonnet so mines even louder again! I take advantage of it... I hiss at people with it on the motorway if they won\'t move over.. it\'s that loud they actually move hehe... try it!

Take some pics of ya engine for us too dude, wanna see what goodies ya got... i\'m guessing you have an HKS induction kit by the sounds of it? Most Jap parts are dam expensive! Best just to clean them to be honest, it\'s quite simple, sure someone will explain the process...

As for the smoke, might be worth doing an oil change (make sure ya putting the right oil in there) and replace the filter too, may not have been changed for ages... cost ya about £20 in all see if it makes any diff!

Think the level of smoke you get on startup depends on various factors (how hard it was driven last time, what exhaust you have / setup etc) wouldn\'t worry too much about that. Mine never used to smoke to be honest, now it spits a tincy bit out (was mainly after I changed oil types)

get those pics up asap!

have fun, and watch out in the wet and cold! (probably got crappy jap compounds on that!)

Snow tyres are awful and that was on a 4wd Pulsar!  Id get them changed, or maybe keep them if you fancy a challenge :D

Of course if it does snow, you may be laughing at us :)

:D Weird.....my 7 came with the same sort of tyres.......waiting for them to wear before I swap them for some proper rubber.  If yours are anything like mine then I suggest you tread very carefully indeed !!!!  They dont inspire confidence !!!

Maybe I\'ll find a deserted car park and try out the slippy diff;)
