wastegate chatter is only on external wastegates isnt it? if not my dumpvalve is going, i love chatter!

Quote from: Red and SingleDo you mean to say that I\'ll lose some / all of the wastegate chatter if I fit one ??

If so, thats a pretty good argument against :chat

afraid so.. the chattering/flutter noise is actually air exiting the system by way of the turbo compressor (ie. the wrong way).
Admittedly, this will stall the turbo between gear changes (or at least slow it very quickly) and on a lesser turbo it could cause damage to the shaft. I\'d still rather go without though, unless you find lag between gear changes an issue

That can\'t be good for the turbo even if it is a big tough motha....

Is there any good reason other than noise to go without a dump valve ??

The bad reason to go without is that it will significantly shorten the life of the turbo.

Hi guys

I think you might be opening a can of worms here but have a look at the thread below as it has some interesting points.  Also, There is another thread on nopistons that might be useful, i\'ll try and look for it.  All I will say on the matter is read, re-read and make up your own mind on whether you need a bov.

It was Ausrotary here:

Well i personally would run a BOV as i\'ve seen a few of the old T Turbo\'s snap there Shaft because of the dramatic speed changes / pressure diffrences.

I know the Chatter sounds cool but if you are running good Hp you are asking for premiture turbo failure on the older dry core Turbo\'s.

Grizzly

LOL, I\'ve just read the post on the US forum, that is funny. How its explaned a number of times but the guy keeps coming back. That White Fc guy was just trying to cause an argument i think.

Yeah some of it is quite funny in places.  The reason I suggested to re-read the threads was because I personally keep changing my mind on this every time I have a look at them.  I think the ausrotary one is good but gets silly towards the end.  Bottom line for me would be, if your nervous about it then fit a bov.  On the other hand if your a lazy, fly by seat of pants, tight person like me then enjoy the different noise.

yeah that was a long read on those threads.
I do luv my rally style turbo surge chatter noise, but in conclusion to reading those threads it does NOT harm by fitting one, also it will stop me blowing off my intercooler couplers when running 1 Bar then shutting off the throttle.
Im gonna order a SARD BOV next month will add to the bling of the engine :D

I am still not convinced that they are totally necessary. Not at 1 bar of boost. The thing is you got to be carefull when purchasing your BOV cos most are known to leak when on full boost (weak springs) and thats the last thing you need.

BlitzBoy

Its racing BOV Dre it wont leak.

I may not need it but im not gonna take a risk.

Plus 1 BAR boost on a TO4Z is different to 1 BAR boost on stock twins, there is more volume of air being shifted by my turbo.

Besides the stock twins have a recirc BOV as standard

dre I\'m not convinced that you need one either(so I don\'t have one), but as blitzboy says if your nervous and willing to spend the cash then get one (just don\'t believe in getting one only because everyone else says you need it or you\'ll car will self implode).

Blitzboy I run a T04R and know what you mean about re-tightening (sp?) the intercooler couplers, at least it makes me feel as though I can do something right under the bonnet.  As for running a big turbo without a bov, I think this would depend on the type of turbo as to the damage it may or may not cause.  I know the reworx was run for a time without a bov ( I got this from Geff and he was probably just making me feel better about difference to the other rx7s there).

Yeah it\'s a fair point. I\'m a long way away from needing one anyway. Hopefully my car will be fired up for the first time in 8 months this weekend. Just doing the final bits and bobs.

Blitzboy - let us know how you get on with yours once you\'ve got it. Have you thought about where you are gonna locate it? Be aware that if you put it near the throttle body on the elbow it could get in the way when it comes to changing your plugs! you\'ll need to take the elbow off to get to them or are you gonna locate it nearer to the inducer side of the turbo?

BlitzBoy

Gonna locate it on the intercooler pipe that connects onto my Greddy Elbow, I wont need to worry about getting in the way of changing my plugs, I always change my plugs from underneath my car.

Bling me up baby lol
