From my experience with 100K plus FC\'s, the following will need looking at and/or replacing :-

Shock absorbers front and rear.
There will be about 4 major bushes on the rear and 2 on the front (each side) that will be getting \'iffy\'.  (Not MOT failure iffy, but they do affect the handling when they get rough)
Passenger side window will be non functional or intermittant. (Lack of use issue)
Calipers will be seized without a doubt. (Usually 2 pistons on one half of the caliper start to stick)
Hand brake mechanism (another caliper issue) will need attention.
Head lamp reflectors may well be rusty if its been sat.
Hoses (water and pressure/vacuum) will be getting a bit tired.
Rust around the leading edge of the sunroof aperture.
Drains will be blocked aorund the rear hatch.
Drivers seat will most likely be pretty nasty too.
Boost guage will have a mind of its own.

These are all the problems you MAY encounter, dont expect to have all of these faults, but DO expect to find some. :)

Cheers Bret, these are all good points to consider.

Excellant! :D

Going to phone him soon. Bearing in mind what could be wrong with it and I wont have even seen it (cause too far away to go for it) what do you think I should offer for it?

Brett

Without knowing anything about the engines history its hard to say.  If its the orgional engine then I\'d say that £500 is pretty much on the money given the sate of the paint I would\'nt pay more than £650, a full respray wont leave you much change from £1500.

Thanks Bret.

I really wasnt sure.  If all goes to plan then I want all new shocks anyway.  Bushes I can do.  And engine will probably be rebuilt without even attempting to drive it far!  (as im sure some bits can still be reused)

Ok, phone him tomorrow then!  I hope I get it!

vz-r_dave

how did it go mate?

if you didnt manage to pick it up i have a white T2 that i might be selling. However its in 10 times better condition then then the one on ebay and runs sweet. So Im looking for atleast 1500. Let me know if you\'d be interested. Dave

Ok, I have spoken to the chap on the phonea couple of times.  He sounds reasonable and im AT LEAST 80% sure im going to buy her.  Unfortunately my folks have all of a sudden decided that they dont want a "half built, tatty piece of junk on the drive"  :reallymad  :reallymad  :reallymad   Which is completly out of the blue as I have tried several times to get a nice project.

Anyway, as I have tried several times before I still have a backup.  My sister says I can use her garage if I get it cleared out and my Dad still will tow the car and tralor for me if I can get the other garage.  Just cant get hold of my sister! :p

vz-r_dave - you are a bit closer to me etc etc but I have neally done the deal with this chap and I am not the sort to let people down (hope none of my mates read that :p )  However, If it does al fall through then Ill give you a message.

Fingers crossed - another TII will hopefully live on!  :D

Kron

Did you end up offering a lower price?

FD3SNuttah

yeh i knew i would have the same problem, so one day my new project turns up outta the blue!! loL my parents flipped but when i told them that it would keep me at home more and outta trouble they kinda relaxed, but then they stopped having visitors round our house cos of the ****ter on the drive! LOL no fetching the bloody tea for a while eh!!!

good luck with this car mate, i hope it works out, another FC that lives can olny be a good thing especially a T2!

Ricco_04

Thank you all for the positive comments.  I am going to give him his asking price.  The car still runs but has low compression.  It used to belong to Mazda for the first few years of its life and has had an oil change done (as far as the current owner tells me) every 2,000ish miles by himself.  He assures me all the wheels still turn (ie no stuck brakes).  He also changed all the hoses about 4 years ago as they where showing their age (standard parts)

He took the car out for a drive a few months back (and several times before)  to make sure everything still turns.  He even has ALL the receipts from when Mazda owned it!  Cracking chap, I was on the phone to him for well over half an hour to him tonight!  He used to race and prep his own bikes and work a lot on the Lotus he used to have (like quite in depth engine work)  so he is very capeable and has good knowedge.

Oh course this is just all what he says and I shall find out for sure when I see it very soon!  But I really have no reason not to trust him and I am happy with the price I will be paying.

Im getting excited!  :D

TRex

My 2 cents..

Never buy a 2nd gen without first seeing it yourself and checking it over!

There is a lot of sh1t out there and most not worth the gamble!

 Goodluck
