Hi,

Just got my Apexi ECU, but have no idea what all the figures are on the screen. If anyone can give me a (very) simplified explanation of what is what and what numbers to watch out for etc, I would be very greatful.

Inj Duty.......??
Ingt Ld.......??
Ignt T.......??
Eng Rev.......I can guess this one!
Air Temp - where is this measured? What to look out for?
Boost
Knock......??
Water Temp - again, can guess this!!, b ut what numbers are bad??

Last one - at what water temp do most of you start to floor it??

Many thanks guys,

Tailz

Inj Duty.......??how your injectors are opening. dont want over 85
Ingt Ld.......??ld leading t trailing. ignition timing. should be set anyway
Ignt T.......??
Eng Rev.......I can guess this one!
Air Temp - where is this measured? What to look out for?from the upper inlet manifold underneath there is a sencer. might go up to 50. lowere the better
Boost
Knock......??dont want any really. its the noise of detonation
Water Temp - again, can guess this!!, b ut what numbers are bad?? over 100c

Last one - at what water temp do most of you start to floor it?? my water system is very different to yours. you should wait till 85c. dont forget the oil takes longer to warm up than the water

I\'ve heard that it is possible to see 100% injector duty and it not to be a problem. Can anyone confirm this or not?

Also, I would also have thought that you can get engine knock figures and there not to be a problem, so to say you don\'t want to see anything is not necassarily true. Again, can anyone confirm this? It\'s the level of knock that you need to worry about - high figures are bad. (After all, a knock sensor is just a microphone tuned to detect detonation - so could in theory pick up other engine noise too)

I\'ve heard that the knock sensor is not entirely acurate i.e. like you\'ve said it\'s just a microphone and could be picking up engine noise.

Couldn\'t say whether this is gospel though.

If the knock sensor goes above a certain value the exhaust temp warning light on the dash will come on. If you see this under acceleration, you may have a problem.

I get silly knock figures on idle let alone acceleration so I ignore the knock...

Inj Dty is best not to be hitting 100, basically thats saying it cant chuck anymore fuel in at all and the injectors are doing as much as they can, so you wouldnt know if its running lean. I would guess 80-85 is the figure your looking for... Ive hit 93 before but generally seems to be about 85ish....

Air Temp is the temp of the boost, basically lower figure the better, I never put my foot down once its in the 40\'s just not worth it, higher this figure the more chance of getting knock/detonation and destroying your engine....

water temp. over 100 is bad... not too bad but still not brilliant. aim got mid 80\'s, once mine hits 90 I stick the A/C on cause it\'ll put a fan on permenantly and Im happy it wont get too hot and if it does I know instantly theres a problem :)

Trevrx

Alot of ppl turn the knock sensor off, mine used to flash on the over-run mainly so I disabled it.

I know where i got the idea that 100% is not bad: Apparently if you\'re getting that, you can still upgrade to a higher fuel pressure regulator and therefore get more fuel in - i think that\'s right.

G@NDY

I used to get duty of around 80 until my last fettling session, and going non sequential, i now get 94% and was a liitle worried, but i was put at ease by someone who knows alot about these cars, so thats good enough for me :p As for knock i have never seen it above 40.

I get in the mid to high 90\'s since reworx remapped it for me and they said that as long as you don’t hit 100% it will be fine because means that their is still more fuel available if needed.
makes sense to me.

I have heard that consistently running injectors over 85% can have an effect on their lifespan, so may fail sooner, this was a general statement not a rex specific one. How true that is i dont know, (im running about90% myself), but like you say as long as your not hitting 100 shouldnt be a prob as youve still got fuelling left.

JP825

Mine hits 89 at highest and pip say is fine, so I presume is ok.

Does anyone know if the fuel system cleaner are any good in cleaning the carbon and crap that built up on the injectors??

Thanks guys - a great help as always.
