Hi everyone  :wave

I am seriously considering getting on Rx7 band wagon (need to sell my GT4 first), I have but a few questions.

I terms of stage 1 mod’s how easy is it to change the front pipe and de/cat mid pipe? I have done similar work on my gt4 before. By the looks of things the parts seem reasonable priced. I take the performance gains are good enough to warrant completing the work.

Am I right in thinking its wise to Fit and Map a Power FC at this stage?

Thanks advanced for the responses  :D

Changing the mid pipe is very straight forward job. Down pipe can be harder as steering rack needs playing about with to get access and if bolts shear then turbos need to come off.

I left this to RE:Worx to do for me- about an hours labour if the above problem isnt hit, up to 3-4 if you do.

Power FC is defo needed, in danger of running lean without- could lead to engine going pop!

Very good results are poss- I had midpipe, HKS downpipe, Greddy exhaust (all giving 3" pipe work) and Power FC, mapped by RE:Worx- result 322.9bhp at the wheels!! :)  :)

PS Hello and welcome!! (where were my manners :spank )

That sounds pretty impressive
am i right in thinking the injectors are up to the job?

The mid pipe would requie swapping out for mot?

tr1cky

If you change to the Power FC then no need to put cat back in for MOT- you can just change the map so it passes emissions and then swap it back. ;)

Injectors are just about up to the job- mine however do run at 100% duty at high revs (just before gear change buzzer), meaning they need to be uprated- easiest(+cheapest) way is to go for 850cc primaries- awaiting mine to arrive at the mo! Can be avoided in short term by changing up early

To replace the injectors the air pump needs to come out, so you can get to them, which you might aswell ditch at that point. Just pumps air to exhaust system to help with emissions.

Will also need a pulley kit to make it work, can be had for £100ish,which will under drive other parts and hopefully free up a couple more horses!!

As you can see, once you start you can\'t stop- ready the credit cards!

At this power level cooling will become the biggest issue (is an issue at standard really), so look at Water Injection (most cost effective way and something I plan for near future) and uprating intercooler and rad.

Just re-read that- I not trying to scare you off!! :eek  :eek honest :p

Just making you aware of what is really needed!

Modding them is like an addiction, beware :rollin  :rollin  :rollin

cheers i enjoyed modding my GT4, its enjoyable unlocking the extra ponys.
Just need to find the right car now. Ohhh and sell mine :)

Check all the adverts on here from members and vendors- should be somethings to take your fancy!

If your not in a hurry have a look at Newera (link at the top), They will be able to source a car to your requirements. Miguel is very good, got mine from them.

Importing takes a few months for shipping and preparing of car- give you time to sell your motor!

Make sure you post some pics up when you get one! And come along to shows, always good to meet new friendly faces with the same intrest! :D

Everyone here will make you welcome!

I\'m following your lead Rich, started collecting bits, got the HKS  DP, BOV, and Apexi induction, I\'ve been wondering about the midpipe, will go for a silenced one, do you know what\'s in the silenced one? is it wadding or mesh or fibre glass? anyone know,?Also trying to decide wether to go non seq with the twins, but not much info on that as yet,
Bob

Hi Bob,

Good to see!! :)

Defo go for silenced if you dont want it loud!
Have attached a pic of a silenced midpipe, they dont use wadding or anything- uses a box to silence!

Non seq- won\'t net you anymore power, just means the power comes in differently, stops the midd corner kick-up the arse! creates abit more \'laggy\' feel- get bigger hit as both turbo\'s come in together around 4000ish rev\'s. Creates the feeling of a small single really.

Thanks for that Rich, As for non seq, i am very old and no longer travel at high speed to get the benefit of second turbo, but i do like acceleration!so i was thinking i would get a more usable range of power (for me) going non seq, and with same power as you have got for yourself, think thats enough for me,
cheers Bob

2nd turbo doesnt kick in till around 4500rpm- going non seq means both wont kick in till around this, may drop alittle lower(4k). Basically it doesnt lower where the power is.

Not really sure you\'ll get the benefit you want!?

Be worth talking it over with an expert (RE:Worx or the like) as they will explain it all alot better and much more detail- if you do let me know the out come, as I\'m considering this to- wanna great street car that can do trackdays and a few quarter miles!

Thanks for that Rich, but i\'ve seen a thread where the guy said that both turbos come in at the time the first one normally would and builds from 2500 revs! don\'t know how that works, but that would do for me!
cheers Bob

r0 284 . You will much prefer the stock sequential setup. Although both turbos come on at 2500 in non sequential, there is no way they will build 10 PSI like you get with the sequential setup. There just isnt enough air flowing to spool up both turbos to give that amount of boost.

Plus, lets say you were on a gradient where the car would not go over 2.5k with full throttle. The stock setup is going to spool up much faster, because all exhaust is directed to one turbo and it will spool much faster like this.

I really love the power below 4.5 k, its awesome. ( I must confess though that I am struggleing to find out why my 2nd turbo only creates 8 PSI - thats above 4.5)
