I have seen this under my bonnet for a while now and wondered what it was. a few ppl at santa pod from the forum (ada and friends ;) ) didn\'t seem to know what it was either.

When i accelerate or rev the engine up air gushes out and when i let off the accelerator air...gushes out......

Anyone got any ideas what this is? should air be coming out, it looks like it shoudl have a tube on the end going to something else....have no idea tho...anyone got any ideas?

go to the standard airbox. remove the air pump and get a blanking plate kit, pulley kit and then you will be able to forget about it

Oh right, will this improve anything? it looks a bit odd and not very OEM style.....

it is part off the emissions setup for the car.by doing what i said earlier it will just declutter the engine bay, and remove an extra wheel that the engine has to drive.

Excellent thanks!!!!

Erm, it goes into the actual engine bit underneather the plenum, i can\'t see any other wheels or anything, all ic an see is a tube coming out of the plenum going up to that point and having that strange looking tip thing on it....

Edit - ok i jsut re read your post.... ment more sense the second time. so its for the emissions? it just blows out air..... fragrantless... :)

so it will just make the engine bay look neater without it? if thats the case that badboy can stay put... lol

Its job is to pump extra air into the Catalytic converter to help clean up the emission a bit. On yours it looks like the pipe to the Catalytic converter has been removed and replaced with that strange looking nipple thingy!

Well I am not so sure removing the air pump is such good advice. Doesnt it upset the ecu and then you have poor idling?

That Strange Nipple Looks Like The Top Part Of A Pressure Switch Chamber Off An Early Bendix Washing Machine! (maybe Old Indesit)

Mine vents to atmosphere too , but underneath the car.  You have removed the cat haven\'t you?

rastasheep

lol, i have no idea if i have removed... could possibly make sense tho..... when i bought it i beleive it has been raced in japan.. its had a new engine rebuild so thats call cool... wouldn\'t suprise me if i have no cat....

washing machines u say.........? maybe thats all he could find to bung the hole up? ;)

So that would normally go down and into the cat?

interesting stuff.....

yea i have no plans of removing the air pump if its doing no harm...

thanks for the help people... i am most grateful :)
