Doesn\'t normally take long with mine to get a bit of heat in them after a mile or so there fine but before that you\'ve got to go a bit easy on the middle pedal.

Hi  Jason

From what you have described you had more than enough heat in the tyres especially if you were smoking them, it really just sounds like you had just reached the limits of the car as well as the tyres, i.e. a bit too fast in the bend.

Indeed its even possible that you actually overheated the tyres if you were smoking them, if so they will feel like your driving on ice till they cool again and the surface of the tyre cleans up !

Personally l and many others have found the F1\'s the best all round tyre for an FD ( although the characteristics of an FC are a bit different) and l am on my second set.

However the Goodyear F1 depends on if you want to drive your car in the wet as l know of people in our club with these slick type Dunlop\'s who are petrified to use their cars in the wet !!, so as l say if you want the best all round wet/ dry tyre you can buy you probably have it already.

Hope this helps.
All the best Clive

The Dunlop Super Sport are a road designed tyre are are satndard fitting on most of the high performance cars.
The Dunlop DO1J\'s, I drove mine all year on them, yes they do like heat, but found mine fine in the wet. The only time I had problems with DO1J\'s is when I was below the legal limit, so it would apply to all tyres. You have to remember that you cant drive these like its dry anyway regardless of tyre, and some wont drive an fd in the wet regardless of tyre.
I still find the best tyres I ever had were DO1J\'s although now the DZ02G are now even better in dry and wet. I would like to try the Super Sport as well.
Last week at Silverstone all the RX8\'s raced on slicks, until it rained, then they used DO1J\'s, so they must recon them as a wet tyre.
Its a shame PhilG does not post on here much as he has more experience of them than anyone else.

I have to say that the Goodyear F1 is a good all round tyre. Not the best in the dry but a good compromise for the driving conditions in the UK.

I have been contemplating going for an all out dry tyre cos I don\'t think i\'ll find myself pushing my RX to the limit in the wet no matter how good the tyres!!!

I have 265 eagle f1\'s on the rear and 235 Avon\'s on the front, work quite well together no problems with traction at the mo :cool

as youve bumped it ill update it.

i have so far gradually let out 10 psi all round and they are much much better.
the reason they were high in the first place is because on my gallant (family car) they have to be that high because they look flat. 215/40 tyre. thats why i put as much psi in the rx.

the tyres on the rx are much bigger there for giving more square inches so they dont have to have as much pounds per square inch. im going to let them down even more.

something like,   10pounds in a 100 square inches=1000pound
                      100pounds in 10 square inchs =  1000pound

so maybe they arnt that bad after all. the big test is at the end of the month on the track.
hope that was informative for y\'all :)

i went from 38-35-30-28. im going to try 26 next time i go out. its been getting better all the time. :)

kev-yorks

Dont think you want to be dropping them much further or you\'ll find they start overheating. Running mine at 30 for the fronts and 28 on the rears which works for me.

ah but my car is lighter than yours. it isnt even showing any flex on the side wall yet.

38!  drifters use that sort pressure,  no wonder you skidded,  mine are all at 27 ish!   you wanna stick 38 in a transit van.

a transit van ? is that where you got your turbo from ???

38! That must have been scary to drive! I started off with 32 and that was skipping the car on the back end, gradually let em down and ended up with 28 which feels good.

Are we all talking about GSD3\'s cos some sizes only come in GSD2 pattern which is different.
I have GSD3\'s all round and find the steering very slightly vaguer (god how\'d spell that) because of the deep long treads that must flex more than standard type treads.
Brilliant in the rain tho even on full boost lol.
Best tyre I\'ve had tho is Bridgestone SO2, 2 ply sidewalls are rare on car tyres, can\'t fault them till they get 3/4 worn, then the tread compound changes to very hard/slide all over the place!
Anyone tried SO3\'s?
