Anybody had experience of stripping these down since I cant get the wheel refurbishers to touch 3 piece rims and I like these RE Amemiya wheels - see pics below.

I want to spray the centre bit which is peeling in some places back to alloy and looks tatty (the tipex touch up wont last forever).

Presumeably the bolts need to be undone/done up in sequence opposite sides of the wheel but what would the torgue settings be?

I\'ve been told also that if the rims actually split whilst the work is underway then it\'s easy to reseal with good quality mastic sealant.

The s/steel outer rim is ok, it\'s just the white centre bit that needs attention.

Any advice out there

Have the same wheels - was quoted £185.00 per wheel for refurb.
I started with nothing and I have most of it left

Johnf - please tell me where   :eek

That seems a lot for one wheel, I was not happy when I found a guy who would do them for 125 a wheel, I can let you have his number if you want it.

Cheers

Well I only want the insert done and although I could strip and spray them myself, by the time I take them apart, prep and then spray the car will be out of action for some time. So some contact numbers would be good if they are in a reasobable distance from London

I cant find the ppl I was going to use or remember their name, it was ages ago, but I\'m sure they were in Blackpool.

I had emails with pristinealloys.co.uk they are in Milton Keynes, can\'t remeber their quote.

Have a go yourself mate......dont bother taking them apart....mask it all up, thats what i did with my blitz technospeeds!

I masked, prepped, then sprayed them up myself, and they turned out spot on!!....havnt had any probs since!!

Cost me £50 in the end for all the primer, met black paint, and clear laquer.

Dan!!
Turned into the worst part of my life....my precious fd3 has gone, but never forgotten....roll on a new life!!!!

I did try them but they said no to 3 piece. Thanx for the effort.

I may have to Dan - buy if you look at my pic of the wheel, stripping and masking next to the studs is gonna be tricky - I\'d better practice patience  :p

I\'m not familiar with these wheels, but are they actualy 3 piece? the reason I ask is I\'ve got a set of mazdaspeed splits and they are 2 piece (very dificult to tell at a glance) I refurbed my rims 6 months ago and I was told just to nip the bolts up ( don\'t go dull) so I did and rebuilt them with threadlock, 3000 miles later and no problems at all. took me a week to refurb them and that was including stripping the paint off the outer lip, rubbing them back and pollishing them (didn\'t touch the centers though!!)
cost me £30 for everything, including the paint to respray the backs of the wheels!

Keith, give Lepson\'s a call. They have a good reputation.

Thanks Fish - I have already spoken to them. Nice drive down there on a sunny Saturday and they were very helpful, but did not want to get invlolved in 3-piece rims anymore.

So I might just refurb them meself and save a few quid to go against the rebuild.

Heh, any more copies of that RX-7 mag available then  :god
