I have an RX-8 Revolution. There are two oil ring seals on every sides of the rotors. Inside these seals are O-rings. Do you know that are these O-rings made of rubber or cast iron? I\'m courius because if these are made of cast iron, than the "true synth-synth-mineral oil" question is answered: No matter. But if these are made of rubber, than I don\'t know.

I can buy Mobil oils cheaply and those are greats so I use Mobil-1. My "problem" is that here are only 0w-30 or 0w-40, (isn\'t 5w Mobil-1 oil which is close to the 30 grade), so these are true synthetic. Now I use 0w-30, but I don\'t know it\'s affect on these O-rings, if thats are rubber.
I know there is Mobil Synth-S 5w-40, but I think Mobil-1 is better.

I was informed by Mazda Uk some time ago that there are no seal compatability issues with the renesis engine. However they have not tested the engine on synthetics.

I use synthetics in my RX8 and have done for a while now with no issues, only benefits!

Kevin,

I can\'t see any problems with this as it\'s predominantly a Group III petroleum hydrocracked oil as opposed to a pao.

I have premix in the Silkolene Bike oils range listed on my website.

Quote from: ZimmyI ended up using Valvoline Turbo V 10W30 with a Blueprint filter I got in a local parts place.
Seems to run just fine and has hardly gone down at all after 450+ miles.

I\'m sure 10W40 would be OK too though especially with higher mileage.
Its the regular changes that are important I think.

OILMAN,
i can get Valvoline Turbo V 10w30 as my missus works for cummings, Valvoline recoemended the Synpower 10w30 and there DuraBlend FE 5W30, any recormendations on these 3?

thanks
Mark

The 5w-30 will probably the better of the two as a semi synthetic, the 10w-30\'s are usually more basic. If the engine is modded though we would suggest the thicker 5w-40/10w-40.

Hi oilman.

I have a large streetported Rx7 running a TA45 and 1.1 bar boost. It is a daily driver. I currently use Silkolene Pro S 5 - 40 which I purchase from you. Is this ok, or is there something else you would recommend? Also - how often to change oil and filter?

oilman

Perfect choice.

We have been running this in the Dragon car all season with superb results.

Thanks. I am thinking of making the oil changes every 3000 road miles. Does this sound ok? Also, on track days in my cossie I used to change the oil before I went and again afterwards. Does this sound like overkill? I dont mind the expense so much if I am looking after my engine but dont want to do it pointlesly.

Perhaps what would be handy is a list of possible oils that we can use.

I\'ve always used Shell Helix, purely because this is what I was advised to use by Rotechnics years ago.  My car has been on this for 8 years without any obvious ill effects.

Simon, I bought oil from you before on the Fiat Coupe forum, and am inclined to do so again.

Mine is a single tubbed FD running around the 350 rwhp mark

I am inclined towards a semi synth after reading your research

What would you suggest ?

oilman

Petroleum based synthetic would be a better quality/protection option.

im looking to start using a premix 2 stroke as before i still get a good discount on Valvoline products which one would you recormend to use for this?
i imagine the Valvoline 2-Cycle Motorcycle Injector Oil would be the natural choice
