I have just done the cheap conversion to non sequential just to solve a tranision problem but im not impressed with it at all.  The turbos dont really kick in till about 5500-6000rpm.

Has anyone gone down this route and what are their thoughts on it?

I have been reading martiny post about his problems and have followed his route to non-sequential.

Does anyone know what could cause a transition problem from 1st to 2nd turbo.   It all boosts fine and then the second turbo kicks in at around 6000rpm.   It has only boosted at 4500rpm one time and that is the only reason i knew i had a problem.  I thought something was wrong as the idle was really low.

Any ides guys? I have done all the rubber lines checked all the acuators but havent done the soloniods yet.  Could that be causing the problem?

Cheers

Ok, for us to help you, here\'s what you need to do.

tell us what your boost pattern is. It should be 10-8-10 Psi.

That means from 2K up to about 4.5 10PSi. At 4.5k a dip down to 8 Psi then back up to 10 PSi, falling of  slightly towards 7 K.

Do you have any mods on the car? what year is your car?

Hey the man him self.

Right the pattern goes like this 0.8bar down to 0.6 then up up 0.8 again. .   Right everything is fine but it doesnt dip till about 5000-5500 rpm then about 6000rpm goes up to 0.8 again but dosnt fall off.

Im not sure if it holds 0.8 bar from 2000rpm up to 4500rpm i think it comes in more like 3500rpm up till 5500rpm

The car is an 1992 type R  it has an blitz cat back system still runing the cat, an knightsports ecu running 0.8bar of boost stock airbox and downpipe and now i have fitted a proflec b boost controller only because the wastegate soloniod was nakered.

so pretty stock mate.

as i said before it has only worked as it is meant to once and only for about 5mins and then went back to the way it is now but when it was working properly the idle went really low.

Ok I dont know much about the knightsprots, but cant that be adjusted to give you the cutover point for the secondary?  I am too lazy to convert Bar to psi, but isnt 0.8 about 10 PSi?

Madden

0.8 bar is about 12 psi.   I dont think the knightsports ecu can be adjusted to control the transition as there is no point in adjusting it to come in at 6000rpm as you peak power will only last for about 2000rpm.   The things is im not sure it is an knightsports ecu all it has is a sticker saying ks rom.   But there is no rev limiter or speed limter on the car at all.

And also it has come in at 4500rpm once and not again?

mm 4.5k is when it should come on. THere are a few valves and solenoids that get triggered at that rpm.

Maybe we are talking cross purposes here! Whats your boost pattern when running sequentially, and ahwts your boost patter when running non-sequentially.

What are you doing to make it non-seq?

nikp

You sure that the rev counter isn\'t the problem here? It is a relatively common problem that the rev counter can start playing. Mine is at the moment, so i can\'t fully trust the readings i am getting. I had change over to both turbos at indicated 6000rpm the other day!

Madden

When runing sequential the boost pattern is 0.8 0.6 0.8  but the dip doesnt happen till 5000 5500rpm and then doesnt come up till 6000 rpm

When running non sequential it has very little boost till about 5000rpm and then goes up to 0.7 and holds there

martiny i have done exactly what you have done to go non sequential but i  have aslo tied back the precontrol lever as you didnt as your proplem was after the transistion.

nikp i was thinking that my rev counter has nackerd as well how can you tell ?

nikp

Quotei was thinking that my rev counter has nackerd as well how can you tell ?

dunno really! I am hugely confident that mine is screwed! I can feel the second turbo kick in at about 6 or 7k. (As you know, should be about 5k). I can also rev mine till it goes past the 9000 sign, and that\'s when the buzzer goes off. So i know mine is screwed cos the buzzer telling me to change gear goes off after 9k revs, whereas it should be in the region of 7.5k If you have a power FC, i guess it should display on there.

Madden

so theres a buzzer that goes off 7.5 mine goes past 9000rpm as well but i thought that was something to do with the  eccu i have in the car im changine back to sequential as we speak and then i will go and test it out somewhere.  What cause the rev counters to go wrong?

Madden

your right the buzzer goes off at 9000rpm so does that mean my rev counter is nakered?

nikp

er....probably! Maybe someone with a working rev counter can confirm this or not! Mine hasn\'t performed properly for ages now, so i can\'t remember! But I am 99% sure that the buzzedr is meant to go off just before red line (7.5k) to remind the driver to change gear. Therefore if it is going off at 9k, it\'s probably an over-reading rev counter! Common fault I believe.

but don\'t go buying an rev counters just yet.....I wanna sort mine first! :p

Madden

already got one lined up mate.  I have started a new theard about the buzzer and when it is meant to go off so will let you know.  I have read an old theard that you have done and a guy said that you can fiddle with it a bit .  Have you tryed that yet mate?

Madden

just had a reply.

Yep your right the buzzer is meant to come in at 7000rpm on the jap imports.

I have spent about 2 months working on my turbos because i  thought there was something wrong with them and now there was nothing wrong with them in the first place .

cheers all your help guys let me know how you get on with your rev counter nikp and martiny good luck with your second turbo problem

Haha! Not laughing at you, trying to laugh with you! Sometimes, very occassionally, your expensive car related issues turn out to be something really really simple! Now you know that there\'s nothing wrong with your FD!!
