What is the situation with octane ratings on the RX7? Does it have to run on super unleaded, or can it run on regular unleaded petrol? I understand that if it can run on normal unleaded tat super would obviously be better, but was wondering whether the engine can happily cope with it?

Cheers for the advice!

i would only run any turbo car on super, optimax is better vthan super and is probably the best to use

at worst it\'s gota be 97 RON surely & when i get me mits on FD it\'s guna get the optimax & octane booster treatment, not cheap but hey let me know if you find a bargain supra or RX7 which is cheap to run as well ;)
Si (professionally tight but not guna skimp when it could cost in the long run :D)

A \'STANDARD\' UK model can run on 95 ron fuel without problem, as thats how much they de-tuned the car! :(

If you get an imported car, you need to run it on super or optimax.

I\'ve tested on my second Japan import to run on 95RON.

Please don\'t do that !

That was not healthy for the engine. Maybe it would be better on another sparks, but dont think so.  I\'ve experienced huge difference between 95 RON and 98 RON on that car. No another car has this kind of reaction to low RON fuel as my jap. import.

Please use high RON fuel only on your Jap. import!

I\'ll be runninng optimax + millers octane boost (£3 / bottle)

This should give 99.4 RON according to Miller\'s tests with optimax:

use bp ultimate fuel, which has taken place of super unleaded now 100 octane

According to BP it\'s 97 RON not 100.  The 100 RON stories are just optimism on the part of various forums.  There;s a link on here somewhere to the BP page stating the octane rating.

yeah looks like hunt the shell garage will still be number 1 past time although at least there is another alternative in BP although given the comments about increased knocking over optimax on other boards the shell goodies are preferable although it\'s guna get the NF octane booster treatment from me either way.
Si (cr4ppy normal petrol for the mondeo in the mean time :()

Seems to be a min of 98 ron in other countries!! typical!!

Having driven the FD around 12 of our nearest European neighbours I can tell you that all but one had 97RON or above available at almost every petrol station (actually I didn\'t fill up in Liechenstein, so I\'m not sure about there!).

Italy is the only exception with anything above 95RON almost impossible to find until you get near to the borders.

From memory, at least Germany, Czech Republic, Slovak Republic and Hungary had 98RON or higher, but more often than not they had either "V-Power" or "V-Power Racing Plus" at the Shell stations, which are usually 99+RON, if not 100+RON.

It\'s sad that in the middle of nowhere in Hungary - a country with a mere 5 FDs has 100 RON fuel :(
