Hi All

Am new to the forum and am currently looking to buy an imported RS-R. I believe thay came in Yellow and since I am about to go through a mid life crisis, I want a second car and its gonna be a yellow one !

I am thinking of going through an import company called Bonsai cars as they seem to be the UK affiliate of USS Car auctions in Japan.

They also seem to think a budget of £7K will get me a 95/96 Grade 4 or if I;m lucky a 4.5 auction model ?

Anyone had any experiences with Bonsai good or bad and does £7K sound reasonable for an RX7 of that year and spec ?

Anyone on here imported a car by themselves ? Is it worth the hassle ?

Freddy

Hi,

Welcome to the forum!

I dont know what kind of service people have recieved from Bonsai cars. However, Bonsai cars are not affiliate of Used System Solution (USS) auctions Japan.

Also, if somone is telling you they can get you an RS-R in yellow in a 1995, 1996 then they are wrong. As these did not exist till later. Lastly, if you do get one in 1996 then the over stringent SVA tests will make it almost impossible for you to register the car. :(

We also provide the auction service in Japan, giving you direct access to the auctions. A budget of 7k (on the road UK?) can get you a nice stage 1-2 modified RX-7 in a 1995 model.

Importing the car is not a problem, real time tracking is available and the car is delivered as on the road, inclusive of MOT and Tax.

You can e mail me on the below address if you require further info.

Hope this helps. :)

The RSR were only made 97-98 and were a limited run of 500 similar to the RZ but with rear seats instead of bins, if you are lucky enough to find a genuine one you will find it almost impossible to get it through the new SVA regs. Nowt wrong with Yellow though :cool

Hi

Thanks for the quick responses all.

Apologies I thought Bonsai were affiliated to USS since they were listed on their website which I think is

http://www.auto.co.jp/company/partners.html

What year are the RS-R\'s ? Are they 97\'s ?

When you say "genuine one" are there "normal" RX7\'s made to look like an   RS-R ?

Also excuse my ignorance but could someone tell me why the RS-R wouldn\'t get through the new SVA ? Wouldn\'t obviously want to get one of them if they could not be registered !

Cheers Zak

John Yorke

You dont need SVA for cars prior to 95 after that they come under stricter SVA rules [immitions] which the RX7 will not pass the time to have purchased a later than 95 has passed :xconfused

Lots of RX7 sold are claiming to be R1, RZ, RS, RSR but mostly they turn out to be standard, advertisers [not all of them] tend to put these prefixes on the cars they sell to encourage buyers the same with wild BHP figures

If your car has the strut bar across the top of the engine, its probably a Type "R".  A lot ot people call this and R1, because they made an R2 later, but MAzda never called it R1, its a type R.

I think you and I have exactly the same car. My only wish is that it had the sunroof :-(

Hi All

I\'m thinking of taking the plunge of importing a 1995 RX7 through Newera.

He seems to be about 3k more expensive than everyone else out there.
OTR cost of about £ 10-11k

Do you guys think its worth the extra 3k to go with him since he has a good reputation ?

Anyone had any experiences with any other importers that they recommend who really know their stuff as far as RX7\'s go.  I don\'t want to buy a lemon from an importer who doesn\'t know their beans. So do I have to pay 3k to do that ?

Any help appreciated ?

Thanks

John Yorke

Miguel has a rep second to none ;)  You could also try Ben Linney [sp] he has supplied some nice cars over the years, as to the others cant say good or bad.

Mind there are plenty over here already most of them advertised on MRC are known cars, advantage to this is you should get a proven, sorted car.

Just to give you another view :D

I have bought a total of 6 FDs over the years;

#1) red 94;non-specialist dealer in UK - very good tight car, no complaints

#2) silver 96; RX7 specialist - good car but had some nice damage underneath that I wasnt made a where of :(

#3) black 92; direct from auctions via autosquare - paid good money for a high grade car - turned out to be the best 92 I\'ve EVER seen or driven, fullstop!

#4) black 92; from a cowboy in the UK who shall remain nameless :) Had been very evidently crashed, \'box was tossed - total dog bought unseen

#5) silver 94; RX7 specialist - good car generally but had a lot of things wrong with it that all cost plenty to fix

#6) red 92; RX7 specialist importer - basically described as a good value \'project car\' - needing some tidying, having may be a b/port, fittted with a T04R, blah blah. Engine wasnt B/P, it was tossed. T04R wasnt a T04R. Gearbox suspect, front of car brutalised to fit sleek lights. Worn interior, suspension all completely knackered.

Makes your choice, takes your chances! Seems to be some inconsistency in auction grading from what I\'ve seen. Silver car was good grade but needed lots of little things fixing. At least if you buy a car from the UK you can have a good look over it or get an RX7 person to check it out for you.

Hi Zak,

Try Freddy at Transcars. I just bought a 95 (N) Bathurst model with 80000km (about 49000 miles) on the clock for a very reasonable price (My first rex...w00t!). I\'m sure he\'d be able to import whatever spec/model you desired and he\'s pretty damn helpful aswell.

Good luck,

Darran.

Hi folks,

Another newbie to this site!

A bit of background:

I first purchased an RX7 in 2003, a Series 2 Turbo II. After admiring them from afar for may years finally decided to get one. Unfortunately got a bad example and got a very quick steep learning curve. My own fault but hey, you gotta learn somehow! Anyway despite all my woes it was the best car I\'d had in terms of driving pleasure but really put it down to being a second car. So after that got myself a Celica GT4, and yeah it\'s OK had fun in it but badly underpowered in my book.

So I get a new job last November with a travelling distance of 88 miles per day, which gives me a fuel bill of £90-100 a week even behaving myself in the GT4. Put up with that for a few months but can\'t justify spending that amount a week on fuel so gave in and got a diesel for commuting.
Aha, now I can have a proper second car, so Mazda RX7 is back on the menu  :yes
I was toying around with a Nissan Skyline, but an experience just a couple of months ago made my mind up when a Black gen 3 passed us getting onto the m\'way. Surface to air...whoa, I gotta get me one of them!!
The more you read, the more you want one especially after my expereince with the series 2, despite the problems!

So the reason for my post, as well as introducing myself is that I\'ve got my eye on an import, which describes itself as an effini model. I\'ve seen these aplenty but when ringing for insurance quotes, ain\'t nobody heard of the effini! Excuse my ignorance, but is this just like GLX or something similar or is it the actual model?
I wanna get the insurance right as I know any little error can void your policy. I\'ve seen Brians post at the start of this thread, your knowledge is awesome, but no effini is listed in all those different model types.

Help folks!

Thanks  in anticipation

Efini is the make of the car not the model, it\'s a jap thing, same as eunos is for the mx-5. It\'s kinda like Lexus being the prestige brand of Toyota. Efini was the sports brand for Mazda.

At the end of the day if you tell your insurance it\'s a Mazda RX-7 twin turbo (2600cc) then they should be able to work it out from that.

Hope this helps,

Darran.
