Hi all  :wave

Just wanted to pick your brains for a mo. I was speaking to a chap today who wha a N/A FC for sale.  The engine has been rebuilt and ported - he claims it has 300Bhp  :confused .  The only other mods i\'m aware of is aftermarket exhaust!  :xconfused   Can you really get this sort of power from porting? I thought the N/A was about 147Bhp standard?

Not that power is of most importance - it also comes with the old engine (which still ran before removed) which I plan to rebuild myself - or at least have a go!

Just wondered what peeps advice/warnings would be?

(I would just like to add that I have been reading "rusty the clown" and its a tribute to what we can do :) and this is whats given me the push to make sure another one lives on!)

Thanks in advance guys (and gals)

300bhp n/a... is indeed possible..., it will not be easily driveable on the streets!
Also be mega loud because of the porting required..

 My opinion..  ;)
TRex the Ecowarrior - Recycling exhaust gas and using it to create energy. Just doing my bit

yup, ask to hear it running and idling.... as Trex says its possible but it will be a very special and very heavily ported engine.
Is it someone off of this forum?  Did he build the engine or get it done by a pro?

300hp N/A ... maybee if it were a 20B :)

As everyone else says ... its highly unlikely for a road going 13b to put out that much power.

Mmmm thats what I was afraid of - I did ask where he had the rebuild done and he couldn\'t remember - He did offer to find out the number though.

He said it cost him £2000 to have done.  Its the one that was on Ebay (have the link on home computer)  Came with a mountain of spare parts (2x doors, 2x wings, front & back lights, engine, gearbox etc etc) 1988 F Reg in silver.

Still a good deal though even if the engine was only standard spec - at least if it really did have the rebuild....

mmmmm

I remember the one!  I dont recall the advert saying it was a monster ported lump though!  About 200-230 is possible and drivable on the street without too much of a headache if you are willing to give it a little bit of porting.  If its purely for the track then you can go a bit wild on the ports, but it wont idle very nicely.

Even if it was a standard rebuilt engine then it is still good value but ultimately I want a tubbie so im gonna look out for a T2.  :cool

I would quite like to attempt to rebuild one, so one with a knackered engine maybe!  :evillaugh

Thank you all for the advice :wave

Theres been a few on ebay recently, the biggest problem you will face is going to be rust.  Do you have a budget in mind?

And another to join the fold! With any luck by RS3 there will be enough FCs to maybe get a pic in one of the magazines

You should be able to get a fair amount of power from a bridgeported N/A lump, with the Turbo, you then have to think about uprating the ancillaries before you see a difference in power.

GT4088 turbo   Walbro fuel pump   1000cc injectors   custom V-Mount   Blitz Boost Controller (ok so the boost controller is still to fit)

Loud? Hell yes! :D

Well, I wanted one as cheap as possable.  Reason being is that its purely a project - pull it all apart and rebuild, it would take a while but surely worth it :)  So with the spares & car this is pretty much the best i\'ve seen.

So still undecided then wether to go for egi or T2 - I had also toyed with the idea of an LPG convirsion but none near me so that wont work!  :D

Mmmm, I could get that one and offer the spares on here!

300 BHP is about right for a WELL BUILT 13B periperal port with 48/51mm weber and free flowing exhaust. I doubt the RX-7 would make anywhere near that from an EGI block even if it was side ported to the max (ie. monster sized J port, etc) :)

Ebay EGi £700
Ha Ha - I have that on the watch list at the moment!  Looks pretty good too, has about 40,000 less miles on the clock

Ooh, did I read right, some people say the egi engine is easially good for 150,000 miles?

Building a decent N/A machine with those claimed outputs are very far and few between......has to be bridge or periph, has to have a 52MM IDA,intake has to be state of the art, motor has to be balanced to perfection, rotors have to be lightened as well, crank has to be cut,drysump,etcetcetcetc.....exhaust will be so noisy that it will scare you when the motor fires up....you will struggle to go to Tesco\'s with it...get the pic,as TREX says IT SMELLS LIKE BULL**** so it must be bought as a standard motor !

Ricco_04

Too true. I shall ponder for a while. The fact that he had no bids and one bloke visit and offer £450 sent alarm bells ringing in my head.
