hello, im just here to find out about rx-7s. I know they look insanly nice! and they can go. But thats about it :) im thinking of getting one when i finish uni (in just under a year) but im just wondering what the running costs are like, if anyone might have a rough idea of who might insure me on one (im 22, might be 23 when i drive it, driving 3 years). Also what sort of things should i be aware of or when looking or buying a 2nd hand rx-7 ? I figured i\'d ask you lot first, as you will be the ones to know.

btw it was http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18154

thanks

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Please take a look around in the hints and tips for purchasing a rotary section and the insurance section. That should give you a good idea of the costs involved.

I am also going to move this post the the hints and tips for purchasing a rotary section  :)

cheers, found alot of info on here that will come in handy, but i couldn\'t see a thread about the running costs? Could you tell me \'roughly\' what i would be lookin at a week driving it say 20miles each day...

thanks :)

"\'roughly\' what i would be lookin at a week driving it say 20miles each day"

It will vary on how you drive, I think the best you can expect from a \'standard\' motor would be around 18mpg [off motorway] if you drive with fuel economy in mind that is. But even if you think thats how you\'ll drive - you won\'t - if thats how you\'re going to drive you may be looking at the wrong car. So 14ish would be more realistic.

Plus you\'ll want to drive it more, especialy at first. Your\'e 20 miles a day would work out to about 1.5 gals, with the current petrol prices £7.50 to £8.00 a day or £200.00 to £240.00 a month, wow.

From posts in the \'insuring you\'re rotary\' section I think the biggest problem you may face is finding anyone to insure you. Insurance companies seem to be setting an age limit of 25+, I guess they have had a lot of claims from the under 25\'s.

Good luck.

I started with nothing and I have most of it left

yeah i figured as much :) i knew the car wouldnt have cheap running costs at all (wasnt expecting it to be 18mpg) but thanks for the figures anyway :) tis what i was after...

and as for insurance, i always knew that was gonna be a big issue, but if i can afford it, then ill be avin one :)

I thought about maybe having 2 cars, this, and a 2nd more economical one for driving to work etc... but who knows :) depends on the job i get
