Ok,

ive been looking on the interweb and found the resuls of a survey of why engines failed, thought it would be interesting to do a poll and have a compare.

the web results from the americain site are at: http://www.scuderiaciriani.com/rx7/o-ring_failure.html

So if you would please have a vote.

if you think there should be more options post up and well get it sorted

Are o-rings and water seals the same thing?

Yes, they are. There are also o-rings on the Rotor, but these seldom fail, and therefore seldom talked about.

My water seals went last year , hence a rebuild, I have chosen the O-Ring option.
Had it rebuilt with new apex seals,New Housings, and the port job of course :D

My last engine died because of head gasket failure ;)

I was told that my car had been servely over-heated by whoever had it before me. So it had a rebuild a month after I go it.

Apparently it was so bad the the primary turbo wasn\'t spinning up! I didn\'t notice that though, it still felt a very fast (although I had just moved up from a 1.2 Corsa)

Rebuilt before it needed it. On the plus side I had a little bit of extra metal removed at the same time.

Well I threw a tip (not at 12000rpm though!) in the FC and also in an FB + the other FB has suffered from leaking oil control rings!

No rebuild, but then with just over 6k on the clock, I\'d hope  not! ;)

My engine destroted itself due to overheating. Mind you  did forget to put the radiator cap on, and then in my blind panic tipped loads of cold water in to cool it down. The cracking noise was not pleasant. Ended up costing me £5,000+.
And yes, was very stupid of me, won\'t do it again though.

Previous owner had engine rebuilt (don\'t know reason why), then I bought it  :D

Col

My water seals failed, lost all coolant into the engine, nice!!!! :)
