Can anyone help? Idon\'t know what I\'m doing? I\'m about to break something!

HI,

You live very close to one of the \'known\' Rotary specialists... WGT in Northwich!

If you\'re not sure what you\'re doing why\'re you doing it?

Cause I will never see £2500 let alone save it up. I refuse to sell my RX-7 so I\'m left with one choice! Take it out myself and then give the lump to WGT then put it back in myself!

As you will find out, there is so much plumbing attached to the engines on these cars!

Get a large notebook, pen and a roll of masking tape.

Just disconnect everything methodically and tag and label as necessary as you go. Masking tape is good, because you can write on it then attach to most plugs and pipes. and even wrap nuts and bolts up close to their fixings

You must be mad ;)

Have fun!

Or you could buy a Bruce Turrentine rebuild DVD?

Are you stuck at a specific point, or just over whelmed by the whole thing prior to picking up a spanner?

I have removed the bonnet (snapping 3 out of 4 bolts), I have removed the ecu loom and several other cables and wires, I can\'t get to the bolts on the engine that go through the oil cooler pies so am now trying to remove them at the oil cooler. I have just seen the enginemounts , how do I do these?

JayDee

Engine mounts undo the two 14mm bolts sticking out the bottom of the subframe
Oil lines if you have twin coolers undo the banjo bolt at the bottom right on the front cover ( this will do the drivers side)
The other oil cooler has a line with a joint in it, take out circlip and twist the lines apart.
Take off water hose near spark plugs, disconnect two small connectors under oil filter, unplug connector to the ignition, oil metering and water thermosensor all near spark plugs, these will be obvious once you start lifting.
The starter motor has to be removed and disconnected, there is a wire above the gearbox with connectors on the side of the gearbox disconnect all these, there are tabs holding the wire in place.

part 2

Bellhousing there are 5 or 6 bolts, the top one is quite difficult to get to, I forgot one of the bolts for the starter motor has a nut on it.
The flywheel take off the inspection plate, the clutch is held on with six bolts you can undo these or try and release the clutch with a bar.
You can take the engine with downpipe(need two people) or take off downpipe separately. Small airpipe near downpipe needs to be disconnected aswell.
Disconnect wire to the sump.
All the water hoses to the thermostat, disconnect,
O2 sensor and earth at back of engine and earth on the block (fr right)
Take nut off power steering pulley undo 4 bolts move to side
aircon 4 bolts move to side.
Alternator and airpump just to give you more space,

There may be some parts I missed, but his is off the top of my head

good luck

Ps soak the downpipe bolts now
PPs I forgot the map sensor hose

:)

Sean

Thanx for the help, but it\'s just started to piss down!:reallymad

Anyone got a really big brolly!

I\'ve taken the engine mounts off and was half way through taking the starter off when the mission was aborted!

Back under the bonnet again now!!!!!

Any help guy\'s?

Sean

I\'ve lifted the engine an inch but it only pulled forwards away from the gearbox about half an inch, now it seems to be stuck! What have I forgotten?

Sean

It\'s out:D
I know it may seem like I\'m talking to myself but being able to post my innermost feelings is very reassuring and is a lot cheaper than a shrink.... so I have sacked him to pay for my rebuild. Guess I\'ll just be insane a little while longer then, eh!:cool

grinder

is this the first time you have taken an engine out ???

if so - you have done bloody well

i have no mechanical experteese and i would probably never attempt it - but on the other hand - if its already a dead engine - you cant make it worse

so whats pip quoted you for a rebuild ???
