HI Im fairly new to this and looking to by a RX7

Been and looked at one today in great cosmetic condition, although something bothers me...

Ive read on here that a little smoke on startup is fine.... when first started there is a little smoke and it clears after about 30seconds or so

The chap has had mazda test the engine and its running 87% on the front and 84% on the rear rotor.

Is this Good or bad?

Also the car is an auto.... Im not bothered about the auto transmission.

Hope you guys can put my mind at rest

Now you guys and form a circle and chant "new boy!new Boy!!"

engine cant run a percentage, it runs the same from and back as its connected to the same shaft, what he is talking about is a compression test, but not seen one done in percent, needs to be a pressure, ie psi or bar. Can you get the read out and post info.

Blimey that was quick

Ill give the guy a call in the morning.

Its such a lovely car, absolutely spotless...  But Ive been caught out like that before.

We will wait till you get the car before we do that!  :evillaugh  ;)

right just spoken with him apparently 100% would be 120Psi  so means its 100.8 rear and 104.4 front

The car is quite reasonably priced so Im wondering if i should buy it and have the tips done as a matter of course, surely its gotta be cheaper doing it sooner rather than waiting for it to break (Ie less honing/skimming etc)

Over to the people who know........

I doubt it\'s been tested with a rotary compression tester.  Each rotor should have three compression values (so 6 numbers in total - 1 for each face of the 2 rotors).

All these numbers are important as on bad tip could cause poor running.

Also - I\'d ask to see the real results, not some % guff.

OK so basically that test isnt worth much then? is there anyone around essex who could help me out here? just want someone who has more of a clue than me to go take a look and give it the once over, the rest of the car as I said is absolutely spotless and pretty much std, other than some nice advan 17s, turbo timer and a strut brace

UPDATE

Just had the compression tested today (old boy whos into norton rotories so got a rough idea what hes doing.

Results were:-
Front rotor 104,105,103
Rear rotor 100,101,101

this any good?

Also when making some further invesigations, there appears to be a little oil in the turbo pipes, not a lot.  Ive owned a few turbo cars in the past and they have always had a little oil in the boost pipes.
As its a rotary would it be the same?

Managed to get a nice wack off the price tho so think im gonna go for it as long as u guys think the pressures are good

Plan is to buy the car and use it a bit (not my daily driver) till the end of the summer (well early october) then rebuild the engine, and maybe add a few toys

Not sure if the number are good but I suspect they are.  Having very even numbers on each face is a real good sign IIRC.

Freddy

Those numbers are in the mid 7\'s. Fairly decent readings. What mileage is the car?

Rowley_BirkinQC

mileage is 52000, its an import and theres no history so it could have had a rebuild.  Im pretty sure the car has been well looked after judging by the overall condition and lack of aftermarket toys.

Well Im gonna bite the bullet and pay the man tuesday.

Ill post up some pics when i pick the car up
