Quick question,
i know a lot of people have said that there is no model report for later model RX7\'s so you can\'t import them, so how come there are one or two Spirit-R\'s in the country?
Were they smuggled in through the rocky coves of the cornish coastline on a moonless night by chain-smoking, beanie-wearing, rough and ready fishermen?
Or are they UK spec models that were officially sold in this country?
I\'d like to believe the former but i have a hunch it isn\'t true.
Anyone?

Hi mate,

I think the reason there are some Spirit-R\'s in the country already is because they were imported before the rules changed i.e. before this model report malarky.

I\'d dearly love to get my hands on a Spirit-R, but unless there\'s one for sale in this country, forget about it  :(  There\'s lots of rumours about that such and such has a model report etc. but no firm proof that they can be imported.

Cheers

aah right, so the rules changed in the last couple of years? makes sense I suppose.

Does that mean i will never be able to import the latest and last edition of the Nissan Skyline R34 Gtr? it is 80000 squid or so and comes out of the factory with 600bhp. N-tune, or Z-tune or something. Damn and i was gonna buy it next year.... ;)

Brett

Yes you could, but only if you were prepared to do a model report for it (which will cost moocho time and money) then get it SVA\'d, and theres no way in hell that special edition Skyline will pass the emissions straight off. :)

It would probably be easier to find a loop-hole in the system and exploit it. A friend of mine was looking into the idea of exporting used cars from the UK to Australia. The same problems applied, you need model report (I think), but there was some clause whereby if you emigrated to Aus you could take your car with you... I think that was the loop-hole anyway.

so maybe you should move to Japan, buy the Skyline, and then move back to the UK? Providing that\'s a valid loop-hole.

I think i heard or read somewhere that there is only 3 Spirit R\'s in the country, so the chances of finding 1 up for sale are slim to none!!

I\'d love a Sprint :( - Bastard government changing unimportant laws!

I had a Spirit for sale for almost a year, but no-one was interested.  I sold it to a guy on here eventually.  Gorgeous car too.

Yep, and I still have it to!

I did read somewhere, that someone bought a car (might have been a Skyline?) but because of the changes to the import rules, couldn\'t import it. He therefore had it stripped down completely, shipped over here is boxes, and reassemebled it. It was then classed as a self build, or kit car, got it SVA\'ed and on the road! Could all be a load of rubbish, of course!

im sure if you waived some money about you could buy one of the ones kicking around on here

I would love one too!  :)

Aparrently is there are standard ones in the UK they can be offered to be used for the model report.  This will cost the owner nothing and will give them free access to the model report.  To everyone else they have to pay x amount for access to it (cant remember how much)

Ok heres a loop hole that would involve having mates in Guernsey.
Import your car to Guernsey, weigh it and register it. Thats it.  Any car that is registered in Guernsey is allowed to spend upto 6 months of the year driving around the UK.  No MOT or SVA etc to be done.

Word to the wise like.

I like the idea of dis-mantling a spirit-R and sending it over in boxes. Would be fun putting it back together... like a 20,000 piece jigsaw, but more rewarding when you\'re done.  ;)
