are the fixing holes etc the same, would the 20b cosmo engine bolt straight up to 13b gearbox??

nikp

I would guess so as it\'s down to the rear housing. Therefore, is the rear housing of the 20b the same as the 13b? I expect it would be the same.

20B_boy

They arent the same  - but near enough. Why?!

it can be done quite simply, kevin on here has converted his 20B cosmo to manual using an FD gearbox and a 626 clutch pedal IIRC.

james

well, i have an old gen 2 rx7, 13b na
got an addaptor kit that makes it fit a beetle gearbox
just got in touch with a guy who makes the kits, and he also knows of someone who can get me a 20b cosmo tripple wammy funtastic engine, so we needed to know if the existing kit would work, or if it needed modification!

gonna put 20b tripple in back of split crew cab - MAD i know
but o such fun :rollin

20B_boy

Cred cab splitty - wicked :D

Not sure I\'d fancy a 20B-powered one though. Stock should be ok though. Bloke a V6? in the back of a bus in POmpey - goes pretty quick.

As Mike said it bolts up without too much problem. Mounting bolt that goes into the 20b starter bracket needs a bracket fabricating or just ignore it. But there\'s no major issues with mating the too.

crew cab pulling wheelies :rollin

thanks for that, ill get another addaptor kit then, and find me a 20b, with loom and ecu :burnout

anyone??

James that is nuts. I have done alot of body work on a split screen dual cab pick up and if your shell isnt well and truly reinforced it will twist like a golden oldie on the dance floor.
 sounds like fun though!!!
You MUSt keep us up to ddate with this one. Oh and let us see some photos of the bus. I still have mine in oz. Since i am going back there for a holiday in november I get to see it again!

james

soon as i get it, ill sort picks, and keep updated, dont worry
its come over from argentina, and has been semi restored, almost finished, so is solid, but an odd colour, so may get a respray!
do you think its best to reinforce all the chassie legs etc
willneed some plannig before i start, but its one of those must do things :burnout

travellinbob

I reckon you will need to reinforce most of it! If it not a walk through model then make sure it has the panel that goes behind the front seat. Mine didnt and the doors didnt shut properly.
If you go to the ausrotary site and do a search for the 20b vw bay window bus you will be amazed! also I did see a recent thread that was called something like rota vans. I think there were photos and the name of the owner on it. I just looked at it this morning.
 cheers, michael.

This sounds like a wicket project. I\'m a big fan of VW\'s (air cooled), so this is right up my street. Bit of both worlds, so to speak. Let us know how you get on with this, plenty of pics and up dates. :)
Now, will it be in Volksworld or Japanese Performance :rollin
