what r peoples thoughts on 3mm seals, just i was thinkin to my self today what sort of people use them,is it a bhp thing or personal thing,
also do thay wear the rotor housing more than say 2mm seal would,

I suppose the only real reason for using 3mm seals is there alleged greater resistance to detonation. The way I see it, one good pop in the wrong place is going to shag your seal however thick it is. They\'re all extremely hard and brittle. I\'ve also heard that the 3mm jobs don\'t seal as well, plus you\'ve got the added expense of having your rotors precision machined to fit them. I recon the money would be better spent on accurate tuning and perhaps water injection to prevent the detonation from occuring in the first place. Also, if you make the apex seals thicker then the side seals will probably become the weak link.

I may be wrong but i think the 3mm are masivly overated. I have seen 2mm Det realy
Badly (My C**p setting up skills) and survive. i think the 3mm are for worn rotors rather than power?

I did alot of reading up on Apex\'s and to put it in a nut shell the 2mm will always seal better as they have a smaller contact to housing area, they also weigh less which is an Advantage with somthing spinning (Cetrifugal forces etc) basicly reducing Friction. What is more if the car is built properly and set up by a Pro why would you have a problem with det in the first place?

3mm are better at resisting det, yet dont seal as well as 2mm. They have also been noted mostly for chattering at higher RPM\'s.

I have always been led to belive 2mm 2pc\'s are the way to go on a budget and 2mm 1 pc Ceramics if money is no object.

I don\'t doubt 3mm will take a bigger hit but until somone shows me a test that says that is the fact i will stay with 2mm, i like as much compression as i can when i build an engine and i will always take my motor to somone that realy knows how these things are set up safely so Det isn\'t somthing i have to worrie about. :)
