Today while i was on the white thinking chair :p and flicking through a mazda brochure and reading about my car (uk fd), i came up to the technical bit and particularly the gear ratio, which is

 1st    3.483
 2nd   2.015
 3rd    1.391
 4th    1.000
 5th    3.288

And i can remember reading somewhere (memory bad im afraid) that the drivetrain was different in the spirit-R\'s and i wondered if it changed with any other spec or fd\'s like the type R or the type r2.
And is the uk spec gear ratio equivilant to any of them (hope this question makes sense :eek ) Or is that another area where my car isnt as good :bandit

 Cheers

Those are the gearbox ratio\'s, and are the same for ALL manual FD\'s (I\'m quite sure). There is a difference between the final drive (the diff) on some cars.... ie the Automatic has a longer ratio diff, and is probably there to compensate for the fewer gears. I believe the sprit-r\'s (and possibly some other late cars) had a shorter diff ratio for better accelleration (but an overall lower top speed - who cares!).

That\'s my (limited) understanding!
