Hi guy\'s, need help!
My 94\'RX7 has decided to loose power just happened on a small journey home. Basically the power was lost so that the boost gauge only went to just below 0.5 bar. Then soon after I was hearing a strange whuring noise (bad spelling) coming from the engine. When I stopped and opened the engine up the noise was coming (or sounded like) from the belts. When I squeezed one of the rubber coupling pieces (I have an HKS Hard Pipe Kit) the noise altered. I made sure they were conected properly and tight. Not sure whats going on?????
The car has only been run in for about 4K miles on a new rebuilt engine carried out by a specialist.
Any ideas???????

Ring the Specialist!

The specialist lives approx. 600miles away. I will be calling him in the morning but im after any help that is going just now, has anyone else had this problem. I think the car had a couple of belts changed during the rebuild.

Hi Steve,

Can you give a more accurate description of the noise your hearing and where from ? It may be an idea to check the rubber coupling on the y pipe as this is quite useless on the earlier models.

Its a whiring sound that sounds like it coming from one of the pulleys, like one of the lower ones. I am really surprised that when I squeezed the coupling for the HKS hard pipe (the one leading to the bottom oil cooler) that this affected the sound. Also that out of no where I have lost boost pressure! I am going to take the coupling off and inspect it for signs of damage but thats really as much thought as I have.
Brian, I really am not sure where the rubber coupling is on the Y pipe (this Y pipe is something I have never found) Can you post a picture of it, and where it is in the engine. I hope it near the bottom of the pullys as this may be the answer.

Silly thing to say, but make sure the jubilee clips are done up tight.

Maybe worth swapping from the ones you have to the ones designed for silicon pipes.

yeah, I checked the top one tonight and actually tightened the bottom ones on Saturday.

Hi Steve,

The coupleing you squeezed check it does not have a split on the underside. To find the  y pipe coupling follow the pipe you squeezed further up towards the turbo\'s. You may find you can lift it up and push it down with around half an inch of play.
Also the pipe you squeezed follow it down towards where it connects to the bottom of the intercooler and make sur ethat has not come loose there.

Well guys I found the problem. Only just had time to just now as I had an evening class to go to but......
Have a look below!
It must have got loose (even though I checked it this weekend) worked it\'s way back and then started to be, well...... machined by one of the pulleys. I did think it sounded like metal whiring, and of course thats why the sound changed when I squeezed it.
Put the standard one back on and all is fine, although it too has very light score on it too but this was how it was before I got the car (i fitted the HKS pipes within a week or so of buying it).
So now its sorted all I need to do is get the 3rd degree burn on my arm sorted (of course I fixed it while it was still hot, ouch!) and find someoe with a HKS pipe they want to sell, know of anyone?

If not I am sure that we could arrange for it to be re-welded, or even remade.

Thanks guy\'s for the help with this :D

Will welding up the hole be ok? I work at an Oil services company that produce tools etc so should be able to get it welded up ok.
Might still enquire about just getting a new one.
