anyone got any ideas as to the best place to cut these wire into...  I ahve used the dimmer switch for the ilumination but need to others.. live and earth/neg for them aswell...  somebody mentioned the aircon relay.. is this practical... any other easily accesible suggestions... the gauges are mounted in my spare din socket... so anywhere around there would be bonza

as this is a little [project of mine I will try and post up pictures and stuff... I am using a oil take off plate ( sandwich plate) to run the senders from...

have all the bits just need the electrical side of things sorted....

cheers

How about a cable from the ignition? The live wire that is live when you turn the key? Or one from the radio loom?

davehg

earth it to the same point as the radio
There are performance cars and then there is the RX-7...........

12.3 second 1/4 mile, terminal speed of 122mph (1st ever drag run on a TO4R)

engine built by....... umm me! now powered by a T51 Kai......

do you have any colours for these wires...

and is the ignition live easy to get to without taking anything apart... from underneath?
can I run two other wres from it?...is it fused?

can I take the  lives from the radio loom?...same as above fused etc.

nikp

I would expect them both to be fused. What fuse though, i don\'t know! Sorry!

As for colours - again not sure, but if you have a voltmeter, it should be a case of tuning the ignition on and finding a wire with 12v off the ignition barrel (Or radio loom). Then turn the ignition off, and the reading should be 0v - I wouldn\'t have thought you would want a permanent live as you\'d end up with a flat battery after a few days. You would probably want the switched live wire.

If you want a radio loom wire colour, you may be able to trace it if you have an installation guide for a radio. Trace the live wire from that and find the equivalent in the actual loom.

take the live from any switch really - or fag lighter - they wont take much votage

lemster, i\'m in bristol and have had the dash panels, etc off so am reasonably happy with the electrics back there. Also have a voltmeter (somewhere! :p) If you fancy coming down, say, sunday, I\'m happy to give you a hand finding a suitable wire. Should be quick to do - I had to fix the dimmer on my boost gauge cos when I first installed it it dimmed when the rest of the dash lights brithened! So have been back there before!

the lemster

ok ready to laugh....

I managed to take a live feed from the radio power lead... and I have earth it through the  dimmer switch... is this bad news?... havent connected it up yet just wired in the wires if you like....

NIKP... do you work at airbus.... my wife sees a rex with a body kit and zaust on nearly every day....

nikp

I\'m not entirely sure that\'ll work - I believe the ground on the dimmer switch is the one that controls the brightness of the lights. Not 100% on this though, but you may find a drop in voltage to your gauges. Unless you\'re using those for lighting, in which case it\'s perfect.

Nah mate, i don\'t work at Airbus. Do just live down the road a bit from one of the Airbus offices though! :p

the lemster

no nor am i... but it is wortha  shot aint it.... at most I will blow a fuse...

just though I could just earth it to the body of the car couldnt I!!!

nikp

Yup - earth to body will do it. No question about that one!
