Ok, bit of a hijack here.  WHy is it when ever some says they are getting a rebuild done by someone other than a MRC approved pro do people suggest its going to end in tears?  I\'d never so much as looked at a wankel engine b4 I pulled mine apart and breathed upon it.  As long as the person building the engine has sound engineering knowledge and can understand the concepts (which is easier on a rotary than an otto IMO) then there can be no problem.   I can however understand that experience of mapping a rotary is important when it comes to getting it tuned in a safe way.

Not meant as a rant BTW :)

Partially agree Brett, but when modifying and rx7 for high performance, the porting & clearancing etc can have a big impact on reliability. So on this point you really do need to know what you are doing I think is the point that was attempted to be made.

Agreed, I was just in agrieved mode :)
Still, for a bit of porting (nothing monster like) as long as you have taken careful note of the tolerances you should be ok. (Ie you dont go and drive the tool into the water jacket)
Everyone has to start somewhere :)

???
Brigde ports are no problem, street ports can go just as wrong if not done right.
From the description, I think it is me that is building your engine and kareem is doing the rest of the build.
Respect should go out to dragon performance, re works, rx motors etc, as there prices are not bad if you add up the price of all the new parts, and what they are doing getting the rotary engine on the map against those skylines.

nice to know the guy has built some 500+ cars though !! ;-)

If your friend does not object, photograph and post the project as it moves along, lets see the ports, etc and we can get a better picture.
I have no problem with this I always like the owners to see/photograph there engine before I assemble.

Not sure about this statement! As we all know, rotaries need fairly regular rebuilds even in stock trim - the harder tuned, the shorter the engine life potentially. I wouldn\'t say a bridge is the ONLY porting to cause problems, mine runs fine!

Still I have rebuilt a 12a, not quite right I must admit, but anyone who has experience in engine building and understands the way a rotary works should be able to rebuild one, and if your mate is prepared to offer a guarantee the work then see how it pans out!

Loud? Hell yes! :D

I think what the guys are saying Francovel3 is just be wary, many on this site have learned the hard way and would not want you to go down the route they have, i mean, loads of lost time on the road and loads of expense, when it could have been done right in the first place. Plus i would be very very wary of claims of huge horsepower, i know its possible but 500+ hp out of both the cars you mention is massive to say the least, especially as you consider one of the vendors on here who you mentioned does hold the current quarter mile record for a european rotary has strived very hard to get 500 + hp and learned a lot in the process.

Your engine runs properly cause it was built properly its the length of life on them thats all.  Fare answer i think

Quote from: John YorkeLets just hope he is THE one, some pictures of the build would be good, who knows he might get a reputation as a 1st class rotary expert  :yes  As an aside I think you will find you will only get what you pay for in this life be it a re-built engine or a new house.
My builders are JAYDEE and KAREEM top men of the rotary world and yes i will get some pics of my parts you will love my intercooler jus gimmie a little time thanks..........

Quote from: g11aryGive the guy a break, he asked a fair question, and the risk is all on his car, in a few months if his workmanship is good and this car does what its supposed to do, some may want his service.
The BHP from your car will depend on several things, how large the port is, where it starts and finishes, as that will determine the amount of lag, turbos not huge but I recon an easy 400bhp could be made, Im not the expert but will be interesting to see the build as it happens.
If your friend does not object, photograph and post the project as it moves along, lets see the ports, etc and we can get a better picture.
Good luck, several guys on here that are not mechanics have built there engines so theres no reason why your friend can\'t.
Thanku very much gary you will see the pictures and 500+ is the aim i dont see why not an nor does my builder i will keep you posted though, to c what happens nothing is impossible

jaydee

I\'ve tried to pm you but I can\'t

could you e-mail me on dean@thai-jantra.co.uk please fella. I wanna ask you a couple of questions about your rebuilds if thats ok with you my man.

Thanks a lot

JayDee

I am not part of powergains, Kareem is a very old friend of mine from the good ole days in our modified cars.
I just build the engines for him.

the question is do you build engines for anyone else?
