engine porting needs explaining

Hi all

Excuse me for luck of knowledge in this department but what  mild or half engine porting does and how much does that increase the horse power if at all?
Can any one explain as I have a dispute to settle with a mate of mine …

I have 96 RB Bathurst with tain suspension, hks exhaust system, Blitz BOV
It is a jap imported model with the engine rebuild by RXMotors about 1.5 years ago.

Would porting benefit my car at this stage?
