Oh cheers mate.

But i got my quote for insurence yesterday.  So I have decided to sell the car.  Im not going to pay £1000 to insure an £80 1986 car.  That is a joke!

And after these bombs on Public transport im gutted.  As I dont want to travel on public transport anymore.

jinx

Did you get a quote for it as a classic car with limited mileage? Should help on costs and must be eligible by now

Well, check out the insurance on anything else, I am pretty sure you wont come up much cheaper even for another car.

kiwimazda

£1000 is a joke alright. I pay half that on a 6 cylinder \'94 BMW coupe.

Best bet is to use confused.com to work out the best deal.

EDIT: I got £720 on confused using my details but I\'m sure you could jig the figures to get it down even further.

Driftit

To be honest.  Im not going to pay over £200 insurence for such a cheap car.  Maybe if it was worth over 1K.

MikeLMR

insurance isn\'t about the value of the car its about the amount of damage you can do in a car. insurance a car theft only costs F all its the liability that costs.

mullins

Tue but £200 is about as cheap as it gets in London!!!

Well thats strange.  Look at my old car.  It was an Extreamly high risk car, highly modified and was insured for $25,000NZD.  I paid a yearly $1300NZD.

Im not so keen on this compulsary insurence to get the car a MOT ether.  Insurence should be compulsary.  But not to get a car a saftey certificate.

It is so difficult to do the most basic things in England.

Another anoying thing is that my travel insurence actually covers me for any car while im away.  But it cant be used to get an MOT.  Why not??

Everything is very antiquated here and you often end up going round in circles trying to get the simple things done (especially at the bank! :spank), but you get used to it.

Insurance in NZ it cheaper because as Mike said the insurance companies in the UK have to cover the liability (which is covered by the government (ACC) in NZ).

At the end of the day if you want to drive in one of the most expensive cities in the world it\'s gonna cost ya. ;)

travellinbob

Bummer that the insurance is putting you off. I reckon it would still be expensive on an old skool mazda unless you could egt away with classic insurance. Best bet is to limit you mileage down to the minimum and just try to get past the high cost when you are blatting sideways down race track!!!
Insurance can also be a right pain for me too even though I live on an island way out from anywhere and where car theft is almost non-existant. Unfortunantly we have the same first letters in our post code as some dodgy parts of glasgow and some insurers freak out. Took us ages to find someone who know that Mull was an island and their computers didnt freak out at.
  good luck with it.
  cheers, michael.

p.s. what about that last game of rugby.!!!!Lions, more like mice.

I also hate the ****** banks, too, completely unreasonable. So, is this insurance malarky. But I think it is a VERY GOOD idea to get an annual safety certificate. Just go to South Africa where there is no such thing, and 1000 plus people are killed on an easter weekend, on the road,  every year.

MikeLMR is right, the insurance is about liability, not much to do woth the value of a car. I sail a little boat ( laser) on the weekends, and I need to be insured for £1m liability, just to tootle around on a little reservoir!

Unfortunately, there is not much we can do about except : 1) Cough up or catch the train.  2) Get the whole country together to protest about it - ( unlikely).   :chat
