Well toddling along to work this morning, minding my own business.  One minute car is running fine, next minute there is a distinct change in exhaust note and the power drops right off.

Managed to pull into a layby in a matter of moments and as i was slowing to a halt the engine actually stalled.  Checked my water temp using the commander and it was 102 degrees, where before it had always been almost a constant 85 - 87 degrees.

Let the engine cool right down, and then did very briefly (and i mean briefly) try to re-start her but no joy.

So as much as i\'m wishing that its something simple i do think it\'s gonna be time for a rebuild.  :(  But on a positive note i\'ll be able to get it ported  :chat  I hear the words cloud silver lining (but only faintly lol)

water temp seems rather low, the last couple of weeks my normal operating temp has been between 92-97 seen 109 on my FC Commander too (but I was doing silly speeds at the time)

are my temps extraordinarily high or are yours low? 102 wouldnt have worried me too much if Id seen that (I would on a piston engine, Id be worried about the head gasket) I would have took it very steady but like I say it wouldnt have thought it too be too much of a concern (especially in todays weather)

similarly, mine always shows between 85 and 87 degrees on the fc commander regardless of weather (unless I\'m stuck in traffic in which case it will rise to 92 or so before the fans kick in). has it pushed any coolant out?

hmm, got me a little worried now, I do give it a little bit of a hard life but Im still in the honeymoon period with it. I considered it to be normal to be honest as the car drives fine. mines full with coolant too.

Icesurf, Im hoping for you mate that its not a rebuild needed, might be something a little more simpler, at a guess, fuel pump? ECU? many things it could be I suppose. does it turn over when u tried to restart it? Sounds more electronic to me. but I dont know what to look for on a rotary anyhow so could be wrong

I think the guideline in a rx is 115 - 120oC  you have a severe chance of seal failure.

mine never goes over 92 in driving conditions.

Seen as high as 115 after leaving her parked for 15 mins and then restaring her. Comes straight down again though once its started.

102 is in the safe zone. The coolant will have stopped circulating when your engine went off. Probably why you saw temps of 102.
