Hi all

This will be the first time I am attempting anything like this and was wondering if anyone could help.
I am fitting my cwest front bumper and whilst I am at it I was fitting my trust FMIC to my 92 fd.
I was wondering if anyone had any engine pics of a setup which will be similar to mine.
I will be using the standard radiator, standard twin turbo\'s and I would like to keep the AC for now, till plans are ready to go single.

I have a Trust FMIC install manual but its all in Japanese anyone got a manual in English.

I understand that the radiator needs re-posistioning along with the AC adn the images give a good idea of what needs doing but I would like to read up first before I really get stuck in.

Any help or pics very much appreciated.

Thanks

Eddie, Have you got any pics of the intercooler by any chance?

Cheers Scott

Its a second hand unit wiht hard pipes

I did this recently, with lots of help from sdminus ! some pictures are in http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14591

Big job to do if you just have the intercooler. Have you got all the parts or just the intercooler ? The raidator is repositioned so that it stands more upright. The ac rad needs moving, because it is in the positon of the fmic. Took me 2 months to get it sorted.

Thanks Shaun

I have just the intercooler and the hard pipes, no brackets apart from the ones on the side of the intercooler and one on the top.
Dont surpose you have any pics of the install without your bumper on do you?
If not can you tell me what the intercooler top mouonting point connects to on the front cross member, that would be great.
I alkready have the rad and AC moved they just need brackets making, should be fun. did you get any instructions wiht your IC?

Thansk for you help

shaunwil

mine had been seriously played with by whoever had it before ! The pipes had been extended and the intercooler sits much lower !

but you may find yours sits alot higher than mine !

You may not have the same trouble i had with the power steering cooling line, but you will need to make some new backets for the rad !

THanks for the image very much appreciated.

Looks likes its going ot be an interesteing job:)
I was thinking about installing the IC a little lower it does seem too high using the original mounting points.
THnaks for your help, if you have any more pics of the install which may help, then please send them to Leee_home@hotmail.com.

I enjoy a good challenge

The intercooler on mine was alot differernet. Make sure its ok tofit it lower. The hieght of the pipes ar essential. More so if it comes with all the piping. It will only go in in one way with its own piping.

my intercooler before it went in :

Thanks for the help and images.

Its going to be an interesting job, bought the metal for the brackets, I shall start with posistioning the rad first, I see in the images you have supplied that the rad is only tilted, but I seem to have enough room to almost stand it up right, can you see any disadvantages in doing this, the fans get close to the engine pully\'s but I do have enough clearence.

Just in front of the engine is a piece of metal  which runs across the engine bay which has 2 bolts either side PIc attached with a red line around the missing bar, does this bar have to be put back in?

I am sure I will have more questions on every step of the way if you dont mind me asking:)

The pic you have is from my car. I tilted the rad to improve its efficency. Ie by changing the direction of the air as it passes through the fins you get more cooling effect.
I also think if you stand the rad up it will not fit under the intercooler pipework.
I never re inserted the bar that the old ic and air box sat on. Didnt really see the point.
I made my brackets by striping out the whole front end and jacking the ic to the desired position and making templates.
My Ic works well only get a few degs above ambiant and 80 deg water temps.

Hi sdminus

Thanks for the quick reply, your pic was the only one I could find to demo what I meant (hope you diddn\'t mind me using it)
By the way we have the same front lights, looking good hope mine looks that good when its finished.

Good point about the pipe work it would defo be close.

Did you keep the AC?

The bar will remain out, I was not sure if it had any other purpose thanks for that.

I have also stripped the whole front end of the car, looks like I have plenty of room to do what I want, but I am sure it will be a tight fit in the end.

My poor car looks all sad now its been ripped apart:(

I was wondering if you have any more pics of your install at differn\'t stages so I can see how you did things (if you can send them to Leee_home@hotmail.com that would be great)

I thought it would be a little easier than it is turning out to be when I embarked on this but I am determined to get it done, I think a FMIC looks the part with an after market nose and I am fitting a cwest front

I am going to be doing a step by step ruff guide which I will post to the group once I have done, which should hopefuly help others who want to tackle it them selves in the future.

Well Scott gave me loads of great pictures of his setup as he went along. The only real thing i did different was to make a peice of 2.5mm galv angle to replace the brace. I felt there seemed to be some structural strength in replacing it. Had to notch the corners on my rad fans to make it fit though. Would love to get the two on the track and see if it actually makes any difference. Probably doesn\'t ! Plus i had access to a turret punch and bender !

All i would reconmend is try and devise a good route for a cold air feed to the filters, or even a route to place the filter behind the FMIC, will save head aches later on with higher air temps. Im only looking at it as an after thought and its not very easy !

Hope all goes well !
