I\'m currently in the process of looking around to purchase an RX7.  I\'m 27 years old, been driving 10 years with 3 years NCB and 1 accident 4 years ago which gave me 3 points and a £200 fine.   I\'ve just checked with my current insurance on how much a standard un-modified RX7 Twin Turbo would cost to insure and they quoted me an additional £68 to my current Mondeo 2.0l Ghia X (weird).  That would have brought my years premium up to around £1100.  I dont mind paying the difference on my monthly debits,  over the next 2 months until my renewals due, but at that point I want to look around.

So, in September I will have 4 years NCB, 11 years driving experience, and 1 accident within the last 5 years.  My premium will probably be similar to what it is now (£1100) with my current insurer.  If I join the club, would the clubs recommended insurers be able to save me on this???  Also, how much do mods usually push the premium up as some of the cars I\'m looking at have had quiet a few (bodykit, alloys, ecu, timers, conversions to single turbos, etc)??

You would have been better off posting this question in the insurance section:

(a moderator will probably move it for you later)

If you\'re looking at cars with significant modifications, then Adrian Flux is always a good place to start - no matter what model of car it is (in fact I originally found out about them 10 years ago for insuring modified bikes!).  You can use their quote as a base point to compare other people against, but you\'ll often find that they\'re the best - and they do understand modded cars as many insurers don\'t.

I\'m currently insured with Norwich Union for a fairly standard UK model RX-7, but they won\'t insure me if I do any serious performance modifications, and they bumped my premium by about £100 just for putting nicer wheels on the car.
