Something ive wondered for a while now .......my rx seems to need to be left to cool down for 10-15 mins after a drive (even if not on turbo) which is fair enough but why didnt mazda wire a coolant switch into the rad ?? its a bit of a pain to have to sit in her for 10 mins +after i turn the engine off.......what does everyone else do ????? ( i usually sit and wait till the apexi shows less than 90 degrees )

makes little odds to be honest if you have the engine off. Ok it may be spinning the fan but the coolant isn\'t circulating so you are only cooling the bits infront of the fan. You may as well switch the bugger off.

Personally I leave it idling for about 3-4 mins with the bonnet open. Then I leave it with the engine off but bonet open for a couple of mins, then I put it away.

i was thinkin that myslef to be honest .....surely it must be ok to just stop turn it off and walk away otherwise wouldnt mazda have had to make it known when you buy one...thus common knowledge ??

well I know that a safe operating temp for water is up to 105C so take it from there. Personally I do it for my air temps rather than coolant.

edit for typo

ahhh ok ....just that i was told by a former rx owner to let the fans cool her down otherwise it will jus sit and boil !

don;t take what I say as gospel mate, everyone will offer a different opinion on these kinds of matters, hard to say whats right. Particularly after you start modifying, the whole ball game changes.

and yes, hopefully see you next month with my lovely new kit and bonnet fitted.

The other way around this is to fit an electric water pump. This way the pump will continue to push water around the system until it reaches a set level.
