Hi everyone,

I\'m looking to change the wheels on my FD3S. I\'m thinking of going to 17s, but possibly 18s. Where can I get wheels in the size 17x9? It seems to be a difficult size to get hold of. Also, any pictures of your cars with either 17s or 18s on would be much appreciated to help me decide :)

Cheers,

Matt

oh yeah, forgot to mention, I\'m looking for these wheels with an offset over +40mm.

Cheers

Here\'s a pic of mine with 18\'s they still look tiny in the arches with standard suspension though!

im in the same situation..i prefer the looks of the 18`s but i prefer the handling characteristics of 16`s?? but i want 18`s..but the tyres are quite a bit more expensive with 18 so 17`s might be better so i want 17`s but here we go again

i still aint made my mind up

the fd on the left has 18`s. The fd on the righ has 17`s..

Ace pics guys :)

Mazda Bait - I think your 18s look top notch.

Oh man, just when I thought I had made my mind up to go for 17s I see the picture of the 2 red Rex\'s next to each other. Holy wheel dilema Batman! Totally agree with you Robbie. I don\'t want to screw the handling, but I want the look of 18s. That\'s why I thought 17s were the best compromise, but they still look small.

Has anyone got experience of the differences in handling on different size wheels?

RobbieRX-7

actually i dont think 18`s are much different to 17`s in the handling department..a few people on the us forum noticed no difference at all and then some people would argue and note the differences..makes for interisting reading but obviously the accelaration will be fractionally slower but top end is increased..also speedo will be out with bigger rims.

take a look at this..i normally try and find the closest question to mine and then read the threads with the most replies..this is where i got the pics:cool

You\'ve got two choices in that department in fact...

If you go bigger rims and stay with the same profile or only slightly lower, then yeah, your speedo will be wrong and you\'ll lose a little bit of go.

If you shrink the tyres as much as you grow the rims, you\'ll gain handling up to a point, but the ride will get harsher and there comes a point where you\'ve got so much bump steer on public roads the handling is worse than it was in the first place! I\'ve driven things as skinny as /35 and I honestly don\'t think you could go any lower than that other than on the track.

I\'ve got RX-8 wheels on my RX-7, they\'re 18".  They handle just fine, the steering felt a little bit lighter with them on but still very positive and controlled, I suspect the difference there is a better designed tyre tread pattern rather than the wheel size.
