Hi,
nearing the end of my thether wrt this car of mine!
Been suffering with hesitation and throttle response problems for the best past of a year now.

Anyway, I was suspecting the Thottle Position Sensor for a while now, and today finally tested it. It seems goosed but would like to hear from anyone who has tested it for a second opinion.

Basically, I cannot get the voltages I should (according to Rob Robinette\'s site), in fact when I open the throttle, the voltage goes down instead of up. In any case I cant achieve the voltages in the guide by adjusting the position of the sensor.

Anyone?

I\'d appreciate it if someone can give me the part number also - (its for a 92 Auto FD)

Heres what I\'m talking about...

The tps is slotted so that you can adjust the voltage readout to the desired amount. Do you have a powerfc ?? If so the valtage can be viewed on the commander as you adjust it !

Somebody else may be able to tell you what the voltage range is, can\'t remember what i had to reset the tps to.

If the tps has been taken off at any point in its life then when it was refitted the slots may not have gone in correctly, hence why the reading is iffy. I\'d say take it off, check it over and then put it on correctly so that when you twist it with the screws loosly in place you can feel the resistance of the spring trying to pull it back.

Any probs give me a pm and i\'ll try to run you through it  in more detail.

Good luck with sorting it,

Paul:)

Thanks for the reply\'s.

I was wondering about the way it engaged to the spindle. Will take it off tomorrow and have a look.

Be in touch!

Cheers

Hi,
took it off today and everything looks ok. It\'s not exactly a slot on the spnidle - it engages  kind of like a "Y thing - one on the spindle, one on the tps (wish I took a pic now!).
Anyway put it back on and still cant get the voltages I\'m supposed to....
According to rob robinettes site:
upper test point - closed throttle     Open
                                 0.75 -1.25v      4.8 - 5
lower test point        0.1 - 0.7           4.2 - 4.6

Cant remember exactly what I got, but it was nowhere near.
Got a bit sidetracked when I thought the Alternator was making a lot of noise so I took it off and took it to a repair place which said it was ok. Got it all together again so will ask around for another tps - maybe pip\'s got one. Called up mazda & they have to back order it so it may take weeks.

be in touch!

Yeah these are just variable resistors, basically, just like a volume knob on an old hifi... you know how those go crackly so you get orrible crunching noises when you turn the volume up or down? That\'s what\'s happened to your tps by the sound of it - need a new one!

framey

I thought just the same! lol

I\'m going to pop over to eddy doyles, to try another one first before I order another one - just in case!
