Just a Quicky.

All you guys you drive T2\'s what is your opinion of the Box in your car?

I am not sure if i have a problem with mine you see, it is very notchy. It drives fine and low speed, never crunches or wines but i find it quite hard to change fast when out playing.

I have never changed the oil in the box (not had the car long) and was woundering if somone may have put the wrong oil in or it may be past its sell by date.

Can anyone tell me the correct oil viscosty/best make?

The next question may sound daft but its one that has confused me for an age. There apears to be two sets of filler/drain plugs on a T2 box how exactly do i fill it back up? do i put half the oil in each? or will it self level?

Cheers

most rx7 boxes are like this one off those things engine moves so therfore the area you always aim for moves as well. The 14mm plug is were you fill it and it does self level. What you can also do is remove gearstick and clean the stickk and selector area up put some oil in it and you will find it is a bit smoother

Mine dont move ;) i have solid mounts (Engine,Gearbox and Diff).

So i don\'t need to do anything with the filler plug at the back of the Box?

Knowing me it\'s proberly not even a Filler :D

there are some other plugs but the one i said is the plug we always use and have never had a problem(except the odd snapage every meet but fingers crossed that is all in the past)

my box is re con and sh1t. cant change fast and its stiff even when going slow:reallymad

three plugs. the bottom is the drain. the top one is the filler hole. the one just below the top one is the level. take the top two out. fill the top till it comes out the slightly lower one. refit plugs

Grizzly

Sounds easy enough.

What is the best make and Viscosty oil to use?

Chris

t2rew

vegtable oil and a mars bar (wrapper removed )

or 75/90 synthetic or semi synthetic

Grizzly

Do i mash the Mars bar up or does it have to be hole? ;)

Grizzly

Do you know if an Fd box would go in? There is oviously the Clutch problem but the Output shafts about right (as my OS clutch was suposed to like in an FD).

Just woundering if this would help the bad shifting problem?

Chris

I\'ve heard of people using FD boxes with big power cars, dont know wether or not you will need to mess with the bellhousing as well though.

well my fd engine sits nice on the t2 box so i think the bell housing will be ok but i think there are enough differences for it not to be worth the swap. as far as i knew the box was the same internally anyway. except for the weeker fd 5th syncro

grizz
your going to have to mash the marsbar up to get it in the filler hole. hope this helps.

Grizzly

t2rew, Do i just need the one? :D

So the moral of the story is the Fd box is so simalar its not worth the change?

Chris

t2rew

its a fine line. two can get a bit stikky between second and third. stick with the t2 box. they are similar to the mazda/ford pickup too.

Grizzly

You know what i think somone may have over Mars\'d my car? it does get a bit sticky in the gears.

So you don\'t think i would benifit from getting it rebuilt if it Doesn\'t crunch or jump from gears?

Chris

t2rew

the box in my car is rebuilt so should be right. after a slow time at RS2 i phoned him up to see if anything can be done. he will look at thje car on sat. ill let you know how it goes.
