coming back along the motorway taking it easy at 80 when this happened... I did **** my pants but the car surprisingly didnt go out of control too much..i was right next to an artic lorry when this happened..the bugger is that i left my locking key at home so i had to get a relative to bring it to me..it happened right outside the fort dunlop factory by in birmingham..its done a bit of damage to the wheel arch but nothing too worrying. The car look well daft now with the mini metro spare wheel :rollin :rollin

i cant believe this happened and i cant believe i didn`t crash the car at the speed i was going..thats one of my 9 lives gone..the alloy wheel is fine but i need a new rear wheel arch liner. its pulled the wheel arch out slightly but nothing a sideskirt wont hide and its scraped all the undercoating off the petrol tank and wishbones. I must say these tyres are absolute crap! they dont even have any steel reinforcement in them..looks like getting 4 new uk tyres.

What tyres were they mate? I will post a tel number up for you if you have trouble finding any bits. My local scrap dealer drives a FD and has 4 in his yard,  if that helps mate?

I will be at RS11 again in the morning as made it to the last 32. If you need that number and i\'m not on line call me on 07771882430.:wave

Glad you came through that with very little damage to your car and none to yourself.

Hi

You were lucky it ws not a front tyre....Any way metal parts can be replaced buy life can not.  At the end of the day it is only metal..Sorry to hear about the damage...

Regards,
Michaelb

PS Which car were you at the rotorstock ? Mine was 96 all white
RB Bathurst with 99 front spec and Mazda Speed Spoiler.

Glad your ok Robbie, Tyres like that are dangerous, think it\'s in all our interests to know which ones to avoid, What make are they?

thanks for the offer wartog. but i am buying 4 wheels with tyres off another mrc member.

For everyones information the tyre was FALKEN AZENIS ST115 225/50/R16

they were the original tyres on the car when it came over from japan. Is this the reason some people get the tyres changed when a car comes over from japan?

the way this tyre ripped is how a typical lorry tyre would rip..it ripped the tyre tread clean off and only the sidewalls were attached to the wheel!

michael b this was my car

only joking :D  mine is the car in the background with the latest state-of-the-art grey carbon steel door:rollin

it was kinda embarrasing bringing the car down like :o  but the way i think is `thing could always be worse` and i am living proof of that :cool

As i understand it, The tyres on the import cars coming over do not suit our roads, one of many reasons i bought the car i did is that it already had 17inch  UK tyres on, i gather it is something to do with the compound used in Japan, i think there were a couple of club cars that  lost control and crashed last year because of this. hopefully more knowledgeable guys will add to this, as it is rather important to us all.
