HI All,

Am new to the forum and am looking for some advice...

I have been offered a \'J\' plate T2 Coupe for a good price.

Its local and has been sat in a front garden for the past year or so.  Its supposedly had a full engine rebuild before being parked up.  It was left as the car had developed an Electrical fault... all thats known at the moment is that the headlamps are still up....! lol

Its white and apparantly doesnt show any signs of serious rust anywhere. I am going to have a look on Friday evening after work.

The owner has lost a Paperwork and the keys (dont worry, it is legit...:cool ) and he is asking very little for it.  Just wants it cleared off his driveway.

Does anyone have any idea as to value or what areas i need to pay particular attention too???

I am planning to modify this car into a Fast road/trackday car as i can get tuning parts from USA through work quite cheap....

Or if anyone is local to the bedford area and fancies a Nose around it with me i wouldbe gratefull....

Cheers in advance..

Hi Lee,

If its on a \'J\' reg it makes it one of the last 2nd gens sold in the UK, so its quite rare in that respect.
There is a section here that has lots of info about what to look for etc.

 Main points:-

DOnt connect a battery until you know what sort of weird electrical issues it had, if the looms been damaged you could cause more woe by powering it up.
Check for rust behind the sill line (you\'ll see where I mean and Grinder sure as hell knows where I mean) as all the TII\'s seem very prone to rust in this area.  You need to find out when and where the engine rebuild was done, and how many miles the car has covered since.
DOnt start the car without adding a little two stroke mix to the fuel first, as its been sitting so long it will take the OMP time to raise oil into the oil injectors, time you dont want to wait with as rotary!
Bear in mind the brake calipers etc will need work as well if its been sitting.

But, all in all looks like a good find! :)

Check for \'CORROSION\' dude....

These babies Rust big style under the car along the sills.. it may look solid to the eye but give it a good poke all the way underneath with a screwdriver or similar..

I looked at loads and 9 out of 10 were seriously rusted, this is the biggest problem with them.
Everything else, wether engine, electrics etc, these can be fixed no worries as there are loads of spares available.... either new or used as there is always one breaking or even purchase a whole donner car for spares for 2-3 hundred quid.....

But you cannot replace the chassis...........

 Good luck....
