Im getting mine done on Wednesday.  Got a 3" pipe going on straight from down pipe to mahosive back box.  Did a test run with Jaydee and the gains very just unreal.   On low boost setting, top boost was 0.70 but with the new system on it went straight up to 1.04 bar....  so now we will have it all remaped to run low and high boost setting again...but its all fun and the car sound just..........loouuud:D

cheers

1. It would be advisable to get a power fc and get it mapped, other wise you run the risk of running lean and the engine going Pop.

2. You will get a power gain as you will remove the restriction of the cat.

It would be advisable to get the pfc as if you plan any more mods after the decat you will definitly need it, if you get it at the same time as the decat then you will have a resonable amount of peice of mind...

My FD was de-catted and ran cold air induction with the standard ECU - it came like this on import.  I ran like this for over 12 months and it ran rich, exhaust \'popping\' quite often.  I\'ve since had it mapped with a PowerFC which I would advise.  It was a low mileage \'96 by the way.

already got a PFC, currently running at 0.8 bar, wondered if a de-cat will give over boost??

A boost controller will sort that out.

The Apexi PFC can control boost but its not as good as a boost controller. It my get a bit wavey the higher the revs. You should get around 300bhp@wheel at 1bar with straight through zorst, downpipe and apexi ECU.

I am in the same boat here, wondering whether to decat mine. I am running the base map on the Power FC with only a K and N panel filter, performance exhaust and dump valve as mods.

Will this be ok?

Oh and do you need a silencer in the decat? Is the straight through just too loud ? I like to hear the sound of the exhaust but on long journeys on the bypass is it gonna be unbearable?
Long journeys in an FD !!! Ha ha ha just joking but seriously about the bypass/motorway cruising is it too loud?

If you get a decat you may kiss bye bye to your engine waranty son........ Just be careful.

IF you do go for the de cat its not just the case of ripping the cat off and sticking a pipe in its place. Really you should sort out the then to be redundant parts as well.

I didnt notice a hiddeous amount of gain and experianced no rise in boost pressure on the secondary turbo or spiking.

It a tad rawkus but think of it as a safty device warning others of your imanante arrival LOLLOL:rollin

It\'s gonna create wuite a few changes when you decat. First it will pop anmd bang more. second Without any kind of back pressure you are going probably going to see your boost creeping, which obviously can be bad.

My personal attitude is every time I get any kind of a modification to my car, it goes on the Dyno and gets a check over, to make sure that everything is ok. Good job too, as it turned out. I got a new induction and intercooler, last changes I made. Stuck it on the Dyno and found boost creeping like crazy and getting very  lean with the foot planted, when I got over about 6k revs, dangerously lean. Turned out my fuel pump was starting to go. Even with a new fuel pump I\'m hitting a 90% inj duty at around 6.5k revs so really need to upgrade secondaries.

So basically if I were in your situation, yes I would get a remap, decats can do funny things to cars.

Does back firing always happen on a rx.  Its quite annoying really but I guess it helps with the power.

300bhp?? that seems like a lot?? im currently running 265@wheels at 0.8bar with only an intake, and cat back.

I was in the same boat as you a few months back.
Had cat back KSP system, Apexi Induction kit & street port as my only mods. All on standard ecu.

Went to Pips for a decat and downpipes fitting and Apexi ecu and commander. On the mapping session because of the exhaust being a lot more free flowing I was running lean at the top end with injector duty at 90% ish. I had to go for bigger injectors and bigger fuel pump to get the fueling adequate for the other mods so be prepared to put your hand in your pocket for more than you anticipated.

Before I was running 286bhp at the fly and after these mods 298bhp at the hubs so you will get some good gains.
